Senzel: Second Overall Draft Pick by Cincinnati

When will he report to a team?

He must sign a contract first.

Very surprising that Scott Boras would agree to a settlement of $1.5 million below the slotted value, especially this early.

That is shocking coming from Boras. He usually gets the max for his clients. That just saved the Reds over $1.592 million for the rest of their draft picks.

Wonder who the agent is for #1 overall pick Moniak? His slot value was over $9 million. I bet he gets close to every penny of it unless Boras is his agent too.

Pre draft deal

It's why he went 2

So, that dirty 'ol Scott Boras. He made a deal with the Reds that Senzel would take $1.5 million less from his draft slot so the Reds could have the extra mula?

Sounds dirty if you ask me. How often does stuff like this happen pre-draft? I just don't like it! :eek:hmy:

Thought of that later in the day. Everyone had Senzel going at #6 to the A's and their slotted money was much less than the $6.5 million the Reds offered. To be honest it turns out to be a good deal for everyone.

At the end of the day, it's still a business.

It's a common practice the way the baseball draft is set up. I wouldn't be surprised if senzel ends up with the highest signing bonus in the draft.

For example braves are gonna sign the 3rd overall pick to a under slot deal. He will make more than he would if he would've went later in the first round and the braves will spend more on the next two high school arms they picked.

This was a good deal for senzel and the Reds.

Dude come on

Do the math. Did NS do better being the 2nd pick with a predraft deal where he got 1.5 less than slot or would he been better off being the 4th or even worse the 6th pick for full slot?

I was just saying it seems dirty doing this just to save the drafting team some money. I also asked you if this happened regularly?

Or, is this a rare occasion? You didn't answer my questions. Instead, you start hollering Dude come on & get all jumpy on me!

Ok sorry for the tone

Yes it happens all the time. The draft is a crazy thing to understand. There was really no real "elite" top pic this year do I think you see all 5 top picks made a deal. I am guessing Puk gets full slot

Thank you! That sounded much better. BTW, has Nick already signed his contract?

Reds have a small farm system. He will have to go to Billings by default.

They have no short season teams.

Nick will reprot to Arizona. Probably make a quick stop in short season A ball and then if it goes as expected end the year with the Dayton Dragons in full season Low A. The Dayton team is close to Cincinnati and gets huge crowds. They like to show off high picks. He might move a little quicker, but they like to keep it pretty sane this first summer (except for unusual pitchers). In addition, I think they are still trying to figure out where he will play in the field. He will do great.

Nick Senzel is on the Billings roster and their season opens tomorrow. Andy Cox and former Vol Aaron Quillen are also on the Billings roster.

It is a little concerning that several of the pitchers cut or that left UT were later drafted and playing the minor leagues.

I would say that is A LOT concerning especially considering I don't know of any off the field issues involving them and our always shallow pitching depth

Aaron played at Dobyns-Bennett in high school. Got to see him play a few times. 3 former Vols on the same team will be nice. Do they show games live? Stream? Or, just have them available for audio only?

Audio and video depend on the team. If you go to the schedule it will usually show on each game date whether it is audio and video or both. Some teams have a radio guy that travels with the team others just use the local guy. If it has video it almost always the home team. If he gets moved up to low A in Dayton many of the games will be on video. Dayton sells out every game and has something like 9000 people at each game.
