September 1st is the day that coaching staffs can start to actually call the prospects and talk to them instead of waiting on a call from a prospect or communicating through letters...

When the clock strikes 12:00am tonight, I expect plenty of calls to be made. They will most likely be to the guys at the top of our board and will show how much we really want each of these kids. This is when the staff will really begin to make headway with some of the huge names like they did in January and February last year. After talking to coaches from other schools, alot of players tend to open their recruitment back up and I'm sure we will see plenty of that over the next few months as well...

Some guys I think UT makes up ground on: Jeff Luc, Michael Dyer, Lamarcus Joyner, Ego Ferguson, Brandon Willis, Gabe King, Joshua Shaw, George Uko, Corey Lemonier, Khairi Fortt, Chris Dunkley

Some guys UT may make a run at who are committed now to other schools: James Hurst, Brent Benedict, Corey Miller, Chris Martin, Juwaun James, Robert Crisp, Kelcy Quarles, William Gholston

There are gonna be people who say "we are not getting so-and-so, he is a lock to somewhere else" or "he doesn't sound too interested in UT." No one really has a clue where these guys are going to land in February. I'm not saying we will be in it for every one of those guys. But I'm telling you right now, we are going to make a TON of noise now that CLK, Orgeron, Monte, Gran, Thompson, etc. can burn the phone lines up...

Some guys UT will lock down: Tyler Bray, Demarco Cobbs, James Stone, Dietrich Riley

No one is really committed until they sign that paper in Feb. Cause look what happen this past year. I just hope that we get the big time QB this year, which I know we will get one. But the question is who. I'm sure CLK and the CO. is working their a55 off to get the best QB that fit in their system, and many more player to come. GO VOLS:rock:

If I'm not mistaken September 1 is the first day written offers can be made to the 2011 class. Offers and commitments from the 2011 class can certainly have an impact on the recruiting of the 2010 class. Especially at the QB position.

I will bet they have a top quarterback by signing day, they would be almost guaranteed to start. Especially if they continue to get interest from top receivers.

Given that there are still a lot of "big fish" out there and we have 16 commits already, how many offers will UT make this year? I know not everyone will come and some won't qualify, but we still have a lot of offers out there and more to make. Also, sorry if I missed it, but what are our chances with James Stone and OC Brown?

James Hurst is a dead lock to UNC. He's not going to screw his own brother over now.

his older brother isn't going to be there for 4 years after the transfer. I wouldn't say that James going somewhere else is "screwing" him over. sure it would be nice to play together, but I think for the right situation he'd reopen his recruitment.

I say Hurst to UNC 86%, but it's not finished. what if his older brother doesn't enjoy himself this fall and encourages James to look outside the ACC?

I don't want to start a "popularity contest", rather I just want to offer encouragement:

I've been reading VN recruiting posts for several months now quite consistently, and I just wanted to let you know Lord Vader, you are my favorite blogger. Your knowledge is top notch, you're optomist but not without reason, you don't "bash" other less-informed bloggers, and your posts are always informative and relavent.

Great thread and I think you're right. We may not sign some of these big names, but we'll be much more in-play with the recruits you named as the season goes along.

Thanks for all you add to VN, Vader.

Btw, aside from QB and o-linemen, I really, really hope we pull a game-changing mike backer. Luc seems to be the fantasy pick and I can't argue w/ that.

I think this is correct.

SGM, it may not be the same, but what i think hes getting at is to never give up on this staff. You and I both know this is a hardworking, never give up til signing day staff. They are not afraid to go after someone even if the guy is commited and has been commited for a long time. Alot of people think im crazy because i have mentioned that we have a great shot at Luc. Craziness never comes to mind with me when i think of this staff and their recruiting abilities.

Very true

Isnt this a "dead period" for all recruiting, meaning that the recruits (regardless of class) cant be contacted directly by coaches?

Most, if not all, of those committed players LV speaks of will not waver in their commitment. I like the positive attitude. But our coaches aren't the only coaches that are able to get back on the phones tomorrow.... you do realize that right?
