How about Giovanni Bernard, the running back from Michael Palardy's school...are we going after him? I hope so after watching some of their game on tv Saturday.

I saw that game too. He looked really impressive but I think that Michael Dyer is higher up on our board right now and thats who we really want.

Most, if not all, of those committed players LV speaks of will not waver in their commitment. I like the positive attitude. But our coaches aren't the only coaches that are able to get back on the phones tomorrow.... you do realize that right?
Nobody said they would waiver, its the never give up approach that these coaches bring. Do u want them to just lay down on all these prospects? Not trying to start an argument here, but im lovin the approach they bring to the table. I understand there will be other coaches that call as well, but that means what???

I'm very confident in our staff's ability to recruit players away from schools. Sure other schools can call the prospects, but I feel that when we start recruiting as a staff, we will begin to make alot of noise. We have the top recruiting staff in the nation imo. I'm not talking about being able to recruit everyone in your backyard like UF, USC, Texas, LSU, UGA, Miami, FSU, etc. I'm talking about the staff as a whole. Nobody can match CLK, Orgeron, Monte, Gran, and Thompson...

People can say, "well they just went to UT cuz the staff was new. Don't expect them to do that this year." That's nonsense imo. I don't care if the staff was new. When you pull off what they did last year in 2 months, you can recruit. They got a LA kid to decommit from LSU, got a FL kid to decommit from UF, they got a Bama lock in Myles to come to UT, they reeled Oku back in, and I don't even have to mention how big of a longshot it was to get the #1 player in the nation...

If you don't think there will be some surprises in this class then you are mistaken. It will not be as many as last year, but there will be 2 or 3 that no one is expecting right now. Have you been listening to Kelcy Quarles? That's 1 right there. There are already some sort of rumors/info out there about every committed player I listed. You may not have heard them, but they are there...

You clearly didn't see the video...

And I doubt he takes an official here. It doesn't even look as though we have offered.

Yes, I have seen it...

The staff has contacted him, and I'm 1,000% sure he's got an offer if he wants to be a Vol. I'm just saying, he might be coming to Knoxville for an official...

The thing is, I don't care a whole lot about what players say "on the record." If a player is thinking about decommiting, they are not going to say it to anyone who is going to publish it. You know this. As I recall, you've had some good info off the record...

Just some info for some of you junkies out there. September 1st one phone per week is allowed unless it is during official contact period and then unlimited calls can be made to that prospect.

This link has a recruiting calander on it. Until the week of Nov. 29th only 1 call per week but from Nov 29th thru Jan 30th unlimited calls. That is the period for getting in touch with players.

http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/AMA/recruiting_calendars/DI/Text/Football.pdf

Also alot of fans wonder when prospects are coming for official visits. Some reasons they wait until later is because of not taking their test yet and/or registering with the NCAA clearing house.

Before a college may invite you on an official visit, you will have to provide the college with a copy of your high school transcript (Division I only) and SAT, ACT or PLAN score and register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Another thing to remember concerning the 28 signing rule, is it is in regards to the number of players that each team can sign to a NLI each year. With the exception of JUCO players, incoming freshman that enroll midyear can not sign a NLI.

Per NLI office:
What is the National Letter of Intent (NLI)?
The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete (high school, prep school, junior college) and a member institution.
Prospect agrees to attend institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).
Institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).
If a player enrolls school midyear than they can not sign a NLI, because of the above requirments.

Per NLI office:

May a midyear enrollee sign a National Letter of Intent?
No. Under the terms of the National Letter of Intent program, a written award of athletics aid for the entire academic year must accompany a National Letter of Intent. Accordingly, the National Letter of Intent program does not allow for prospective student-athletes enrolling at midyear to sign a National Letter of Intent. The National Letter of Intent program has created an exception to this general rule for midyear junior college transfer students in the sport of football. A midyear junior college transfer student in the sport of football may sign a National Letter of Intent during the designated signing period.

Now the signifigance of this is regarding how many you can sign and backcount. You still can only add 25 scholarship players per year with a max of 85 at anytime of the roster. To backcount scholarships you must have open spots for the prior year in regards to the 25 max.

Example lets say UT had only added 22 scholarship players for the 2009 class. So 3 spots are open. These 3 spots can be given to JUCO transfer players, Grayshirt players, and midyear enrollees. Usually the first two is where this is applied. But if UT only has 3 incoming freahman that enroll midyear you could backcount those 3 and still sign 28 more freshman in February on NSD and 25 of those count towards the scholarship max for the year and 3 that either grayshirt or go to JUCO. So in essence UT brought in 31 players but only signed 28 to NLIs. Also a grayshirt will not need to sign a new NLI because the original is valid for one full year.

Given that there are still a lot of "big fish" out there and we have 16 commits already, how many offers will UT make this year? I know not everyone will come and some won't qualify, but we still have a lot of offers out there and more to make. Also, sorry if I missed it, but what are our chances with James Stone and OC Brown?

They will sign 28 in this class.

He looked very good but consider the level of competition as well. Upper Arlington hasn't been a good program for years. It's too bad they didnt play any of the Cincinnati programs this year. That is where the best football in Ohio is played.

Stone - good chance, think we'll get him (still keeping an eye on Bama and ND)

Brown - no chance because we haven't offered and aren't interested

TIDEWARRIOR---Thanks for the link. I have no idea how they can keep up with all this madness....On top of just the normal day to day and game week preparations. On VOL calls yesterday when Coach Kiffin was signing off he made a comment to KESLING about how it is only 830pm and their is/was alot of things left to do in the day. I imagined they were calling recruits immediately after midnight last nite.

September 1st is the day that coaching staffs can start to actually call the prospects and talk to them instead of waiting on a call from a prospect or communicating through letters...

When the clock strikes 12:00am tonight, I expect plenty of calls to be made. They will most likely be to the guys at the top of our board and will show how much we really want each of these kids. This is when the staff will really begin to make headway with some of the huge names like they did in January and February last year. After talking to coaches from other schools, alot of players tend to open their recruitment back up and I'm sure we will see plenty of that over the next few months as well...

Some guys I think UT makes up ground on: Jeff Luc, Michael Dyer, Lamarcus Joyner, Ego Ferguson, Brandon Willis, Gabe King, Joshua Shaw, George Uko, Corey Lemonier, Khairi Fortt, Chris Dunkley

Some guys UT may make a run at who are committed now to other schools: James Hurst, Brent Benedict, Corey Miller, Chris Martin, Juwaun James, Robert Crisp, Kelcy Quarles, William Gholston

There are gonna be people who say "we are not getting so-and-so, he is a lock to somewhere else" or "he doesn't sound too interested in UT." No one really has a clue where these guys are going to land in February. I'm not saying we will be in it for every one of those guys. But I'm telling you right now, we are going to make a TON of noise now that CLK, Orgeron, Monte, Gran, Thompson, etc. can burn the phone lines up...

Some guys UT will lock down: Tyler Bray, Demarco Cobbs, James Stone, Dietrich Riley

I told you guys. This staff is ridiculous...

Most, if not all, of those committed players LV speaks of will not waver in their commitment. I like the positive attitude. But our coaches aren't the only coaches that are able to get back on the phones tomorrow.... you do realize that right?

What were you saying? In the past 12 days, we have gotten 2 players to decommit and commit to the Vols. That isn't even counting Jawuan James (who will be a Vol) decommitting from Bama. We have also gotten five 4star commitments total since I wrote this. Not bad for 12 days of work if you ask me...

I said the "COMMITTED" players you named wouldn't switch... I'm sure if I listed 30 players, I might get lucky too. The only person you got was Corey Miller and, honestly, noone saw that coming. Jawuan James, as I've said in other posts/threads, is likely to end up at UT. If you'll re-read my post on this particular subject, I said "most of the committed players LV listed will never switch" (something along those lines). So far you've named 1 (Miller).

The others you listed will not switch (sans James). If you prove me wrong, so be it. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just stating my opinion.

Again, if I listed 30 targeted UT recruits like you did, I'm sure I'd hit on a few of them too!

:eek:lol:

Previously Committed Players UT Has Switched
1. Corey Miller
2. Tyler Bray
3. JuWuan James

Dang, that was after only 12 days too lol...

So James is official? Or are you assuming.... you know what they say about people who assume....

I think everyone knew Bray was coming.

So... I'll give you Miller, even though again, you did name 23 prospects.

How about Uko? He's basically eliminated us. Josh Shaw is almost an OSU lock. I mean it's all relative to how you wanna look at your little list...

either way, I'd rather listen to you even when you're wrong than to some of these other guys when they're right. Go Vols.
