I'm really not even sure what to say about this because it's something I never expected. A co-worker of mine that I've worked side by side with for 3+ years had his computers, modems, cameras and smart phone seized Thurs. night on accusations of child pornography. He claims he's innocent and I really want to believe him but it's tough. Apparently there was some pics in an "aol" folder that were flagged. He says that he was in a sports chat room/forum and someone kept sending him pics or links to pics that he deleted immediately. He also said something about his "aol" account being hacked.......I don't know what to believe.

I what he claims possible? If his account was hacked wouldn't it come back to that persons IP and not the guy I work with?

What are all the rules for registered sex offenders? (where their allowed to be and so on)

So someone was sending him pictures that he downloaded AND his aol was hacked?

1. I don't think pictures just "download" on your computer without you willfully doing so.

2. Kind of suspicious that he had two independent excuses for how he ended up with those pictures.

Innocent until proven guilty. He needs to lawyer up quick.

Our boss talked to one of the higher up cops in town, he said" We don’t go after someone with a few pictures or pictures of 16 year olds that look 21. We go after the guys with pictures of pre-teen and younger kids"

He was not speaking specifically on this case.

this was my read before reading your last post. they don't go around arresting guys for accidental child porn. sounds like your bud has a problem. don't feel bad about it. you'd be surprised how good people can be at hiding their true self.

that's what stood out to me also. Pretty amazing this guy was targeted by 2 different cp distributors.

People have no idea what they're doing on the internet most of the time so it could be possible but I seriously doubt it. He's going to FPMITAP

How bad do you have to have it if you are messing around with that stuff at work? Obviously you've got issues if it's waiting for you at home but if you can't even wait that long...God only knows what the warrant for his home (I'm assuming there'll be one) might turn up.

There is tons of research in this type investigaton and possibly some baiting as well. From where I sit, I'd say they have their man.

I don't think he did anything on our work computers. We will be screwed if he did, will lose all the info on our 600+ customers.

Apologies...I misinterpreted the "co-worker" part to mean this actually took place at work.

About 10 years ago a coworker took a week off to go a vacation.
When we came in on Monday his cubicle was taped off in yellow crime scene tape.

It took about a week before the story leaked out.
But apparently he had been emailing at work what he thought was a 16 yr old girl which turned out to be an undercover cop.
His computer was marked as evidence.

He got fired for "job abandonment" not showing up to work (in jail).
I've tried to look him up several times in the sex offender registry, and he never has showed up.
So apparently he avoided that somehow. This was about 10 yrs ago though.

I think your coworker is an idiot for doing that at work or at home for that matter.

Ya, I think they're pretty good these days about setting up a sting and making SURE that they are targeting the right individual and that they are blatantly offending.

That being said, you never know.

Just think. If Muhammad lived today, he'd be going to jail instead of the mountain.

Or would the jail come to him?

don't be so sure, how many Catholic priests ended up in jail for their abuse of young boys?

You should be careful about discussing or reporting this issue to others. I realize you haven't given a name, but I still believe your HR department would tell not to be discussing this issue with anyone regardless of whether or not you are posting it anonymously on a message board. It could come back to sting you and jeapordize your employment.
