With the government shutdown upon us, they have reduced the American Forces Network to just one channel. This channel is dedicated to showing only news. So as it stands, all of us stationed overseas are not able to watch our beloved VOLS this weekend or any other show/sporting event. I am fortunate enough to be in a place where the internet is fast enough to stream the game. However, most in deployed or remote locations will not be that lucky. I know that this may seem like a small inconvenience, but to many away from home, it is something small like this that makes being away a little more bearable. Again, I know that people are out of work and much more serious problems have resulted from this, but I just wanted to let my fellow Vols fans know what’s happening overseas. I’m not sure what can be done, if anything. Thanks for letting me vent!

That's a damn shame. I'm a very political person, but this isn't the place to talk about it. It's very embarrassing though. Stay safe over there.

Quit whining, back in the day we had to get our game news mailed to us two weeks late.

I have deployed 4 times and I watch every game every year. Every FOB, well most FOB's have some form on internet that is either in MWR or soldiers pay for a connection with a local provider. If this is the case, there are several options. This is one: VIPBox TV - Live Sports Streams - Sports On Demand Online For Free It is streaming, so quality or a steady stream my be an issue. I am currently in Jordan on a civilian contract and I watch using that website every week. There will be advertisements but if you can find the little "x's" to click them away and click away the pop up screens that come up, you will be able to watch.

That's how I am going to watch this weekend, I'm more worried about those that have extremely slow internet like I had at my last deployment. It's no fun watching the ball get snapped and then 20 seconds later watching the teams line up for the next play with no idea on what happened in between.

Maybe it would help if instead of venting on volnation you would send an email to your Congressman or Congresswoman and vent on them. JMO

Thanks for your service. :hi:

Unless AFN comes back up...I will not be able to watch the game. My net sucks to much to try and stream it (tried it already.) Oh well, GO VOLS!

If they are a GOPer good luck with getting a response. Sent mine an email requesting response over the approaching shutdown a few weeks ago and got nothing.

Chrome browser with ad block plus will make all the ads go away...

Only a Air Force guy would cry about having only one TV channel....

I'm sure they have plenty of tampon's, to soak up those tears.

I'm contracting in Afghanistan and with sniperhill you can at least listen on the radio fine. Video streams get too choppy so you miss too much in between the lag spikes.
