Shack's Jumper?

He seemed to be developing a pretty good jumper and now all of the sudden he all but refuses to shoot. What happened? He clearly has 0 confidence in his shot. That could really hurt us down the stretch, he is too good defensively to not be on the floor.
He might have to cede some minutes to Dubar. Dubar is at least a willing jump shooter. Mashack is back to his freshman self where he will barely look at the rim.

That free throw that was so off was bad, too. Just reeked of lost confidence. Barnes will talk to him, I’m sure.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Mashack is playing through some sort of arm / shoulder injury that’s affecting his shot. He clearly was shooting much better until the last couple games. He’s a warrior and would have to be severely injured to set out.

That just might be the case.

Gosh I was just thinking the same about Mashack. I kept remembering first of the season they kept talking about how he put up an upsurd number of shoots, and how if he can just be a respectable 3 point shooter how much it would open the offense. He shot one tonight and missed, but would not take another. I also think he’s a good driver and finisher at the rim, but I guess it’s hard to drive when the defender is 4 foot of you.

And I love Shack, this isn’t a bash post. But I honestly believe he may have given the other teams this year more points by fouling 3 point shooters than he has scored himself 🤦🏻‍♂️

He will be on the floor for defense. He just knows that Lanier, Gainey, and Igor can get their shots. We just need him to cut and convert on drives. He missed a layup in the second half that was key. Mashak is going to play a bunch for us.

I've had pregame warmups when nothing was going in. But then, sometimes, once the game started, I couldn't miss!

Sometimes. But usually, if they weren't dropping in pregame, that was it for the evening.

Much like a round of golf. Whatever's going wrong on that first hole... is just what you're gonna have to work with until you can get back to the range and straighten it out.

I believe the count is up to 7 times this year if my math is right. 7 times in 10 games from a senior.

He is acting like he doesn’t think an open 3 is good offense early in the clock.

Underwood clearly schemed to give him the shot. I think he needs to take them.
He hasn’t shot well lately. He scores by slashing to the goal . He’s not a consistent outside shooter but an elite defender.

Well Gainey couldn’t buy a bucket early but came on in the second half. But today was one of those days where nobody’s shots were hitting. Mashack probably isn’t gonna shoot well when no one else is

As has been said, Mashack is an ELITE defender...CRB has really helped him develop a respectable offensive game, but when he first got here, he had zero.

He is a hustler, incredible defender, and can get a few points when absolutely needed. But, I honestly feel his role is lock-down defense in games of this magnitude, rowdy gym, etc...

He was nailing corner 3's last year. He won't even take a FT jumper now.

I think he gets in his own head offensively. Teams will leave him open daring him to shoot and once he takes the bait and misses it messes with his psyche.

I also think he is naturally an unselfish player, so he doesn't want to shoot just becuase he has the first open look all the time.

I wish though Barnes would tell him to drive in the paint more. With the way fouls were being called today, he could have drawn alot more in the 2nd half just by going to the rim.

You should listen to the Illinois coach’s press conference for his comments on Mashack.

I’d prefer to watch how much he impacts the game for us as opposed to worrying about what a whiny coach of an unranked team says about one of the most impactful players on our team.

Just listened to it. Underwood doesn't have much of a filter. His comments on Mashack really weren't called for, even if true. I get that he's just saying the kind of things that most coaches probably are thinking a lot of times, but that was a bit tacky, I thought.

The whining about officiating is laughable.
