That set includes 35 blades. What would 35 blades of what you are using now cost you?

That's certainly a fair point. But here is my concerns with safety razor:

1) Never used before so how do you have to shave differently than the gillette/schick type razor? I would be a beginner and certainly don't want to go to work with toilet paper pieces stuck to my face ;)

2) That starter set you sent seems awfully involved. I shave in the shower and honestly don't want my shaving to take 15-20 min. with all the prep and "fancy" brushes. I know that it gives better shave, but can you still use the safety razor for a quick shave?

LOL! You're right. There is a learning curve but it doesn't take long. Starting out, the shower is probably not the best way. But like I said, I've been using a safety razor for about 3 years now. Most work mornings, I shave in the shower. There are plenty of videos online. Search wetshaving. Right now, I use a fresh blade every week and spend about $20 a year. I could probably cut that cost in half and still get a decent shave but I really like the Feather blades.

If you dry off your blade after shaving it will last longer.

Yep... I remember Clark Howard talking about it years ago and I've been doing it ever since. I typically shave 3-4 times per week and I will keep my blades for many months. Instead of using one until it is dull, I will use a different one each time I shave and just rotate through a couple of packs. I honestly can't remember the last time I've bought blades... and I have fairly heavy stubble.

Below are a couple of links that might be of interest. I've never tried the bluejeans or arm sharpening tip, but it might be worth a shot.

Beat me to it. I remember him talking about that on the radio when I was a kid. Still don't make the time to hit it with a blow dryer like he talked about though. I just shake the razor out as best I can and dab it on a towel. Definitely makes a difference.

I did the dollar shave club for maybe half a year and I still have a couple unopened packs of razors.

I'm in dollar shave club. I shave my head every 2 days so I need a good razor. I use the 2 blades and they work fine.

I always thought these were kind of like those overpriced clothing boxes. This seems like a deal I need to look into.

Thanks! How do they compare with the best of the store bought (fusion pro)? Have you used any of their other products?

I had a Fusion Pro before I switched, and Harry's is better, IMO. The blade is wider, side to side, so it's kind of a quicker shave. Only thing I don't like about that is trimming my gotee, as it take a little patience to get it how I want it. I especially love the orange handle, and the fact that its solid. It feels a lot better to shave with.

Just my experience though.

I have been thinking about doing one of those shave clubs like Harry's or Dollar shave club. Anyone have any experiences with either? Pros/Cons?

Thanks!

Harry's is sweet and affordable. Initial kit is $15 for good sized bottle of shave gel, razor and 2 extra blades. Shipping is free. I just made the switch after being tired of paying $30 for 5-6 razor cartidges. Love it thus far

Thanks. Trying to decide if I just want to get the starter kit or make the jump to the plan. Thinking about the Shave Cream (as opposed to the gel).

I make my own pre-shave oil and use Art of Shaving cream with a brush. Will never go back to canned crap again. It really does make a huge difference. The cream isn't cheap, but it will last 6-12 months, depending on how frequently you shave.

So I looked on the website and was confused a little. The $ a month plan. Does that get me blades every month? And how does it work

1. How do you make your oil?

2. Is that the 5.0 oz. jar of cream you get?

I use Merkur safety razor and blades. I also use a brush, cup and Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving creams. It does take about 15-20 minutes to shave each day, but the difference is worth it. Typically, also need to make two passes in different directions across your face each shave.

I used to use the Gillette 4 or 5 blade, or whatever the latest was. However, those blades actually cause a lot of problems for some people like me. The first blades lift the whisker while the other blades cut. The whisker then would be cut so short that it fell back inside the skin. This leads to lots of irritation and ingrown hair issues for some.

The first few shaves with the safety razor left me a little nicked up, but once you figure out the correct shave angle (which doesn't take long at all), you will be really pleased with the result.

Finally, there is something nice about taking a few minutes during your morning to take the time necessary for a good shave. There is definitely an art to doing it just right even if it takes a little longer than the shave you're used to. I never see myself switching back from the safety razor and creams.

For Dollar Shave Club, yes. You can also set it up for every other month. If a delivery time comes around and you have enough blades to get you to the next delivery, you can cancel the upcoming delivery and not be charged.

I have no doubt that this is the best way to shave, but honestly, I just don't have (or choose to have) the time in the morning to spend 20 min. shaving. I already get impatient with the 5 min or so brushing my teeth!

I had to actually get up earlier once I started using the safety razor. It can definitely be a hassle.

One other product I use on occasion is Baxter's Super Close Shave Formula. It comes in an 8 oz plastic jar. You simply scoop some out and apply to face with fingers or brush. No other prep involved. Saves lots of time but doesn't give as close a shave. If you used it everyday, the jar wouldn't last long. It isn't cheap either. If you have skin irritation issues after shaving though, these specialty products are well worth it.

I swear by them.

I was looking to upgrade my shaving cream. Harry's offers one but not sure how good it is. I don't really have skin irritation issues, but like an "easy glide" for sure.
