She's Gone!!!!!!

I don’t think so. She made those comments because she wants to be a Lady Vol and win. If she didn’t care and was going to transfer no matter what she wouldn’t have said anything at all. Had Holly stayed she would have been gone. If they get them a great coach why bother having to sit out a year and messing with a transfer?

OK OK ! let`s just wait and see. But even if she do stay and i hope she do, She gets move to the 2g because her playing the pg is really hurting her game.

Happy kids and happy parents here today. They were losing the next generation of LV fans, the way it was headed, and possibly hurting interest in the sport among girls in the state.

Now that I can agree with, for that to happen though Massengill is going to have to make some big improvements on the defensive end between now and next season. She was a terrible defensive liability all season and it never got fixed, which I put on Holly. She seemed oblivious to it.

I don’t want to see another freshman at the point, I’m hoping we have a coach that gets the young players up to speed, but I don’t want someone who relies on them wholly like Holly did. Every year she talked like the incoming players were going to solve all the problems, it just isn’t going to happen. That’s why super successful coaches hardly play their freshman. Gives the, a chance to see the game played a that speed and the learn to respect their time on the court. No matter how good they were in HS they are almost always just OK as freshman.

Omg! This would be a dream! I love how she plays! I hate we missed out on her and had Hayes instead.
Hayes was better last year, but Dana improved a lot and I think she had a more complete game. It was just a matter of adjusting to the college game.

But Hayes had potential too. Quick as lightning and a master of getting to the line. All she needed was to learn to play with patience and work on that fugly jump shot.

We all know that`s not gonna happen but it would be nice. Then Westbrook would be out of a job at the point correct ?

Out of the job as a full time PG but keeping her job as a full time SG. She could spell Evans when she needs to go to the bench. I'd rather have Westbrook at PG than Massengill.

Massengill is a liability on offense, too. She is a perfect example of a pure athlete with no basketball skills. Can't shoot the ball, low basketball IQ. She's a project. She may be able to contribute as a reserve by her junior year, but I literally saw nothing about her that impressed me...other than the fact that she's tall and athletic.

I know Holly gave it her all but this was 100% the right decision. That said, thank you for 38 years of hard work, Holly. Her struggles as a head coach shouldn't overshadow her contributions as a fantastic good cop to Pat's bad cop in countless Final Fours and 8 championships. I have little doubt Holly will be able to find a different coaching role if that's what she desires, or she'll be able to comfortably retire and be proud of what she's accomplished in her career.

Agree with you but I'm still not convinced that Walz is in play. I don't dislike Walz. I just cannot conceive he would talk with Tennessee (or anyone else) while his team is still playing in the WNCAAT, and if he did, I'm not sure I like it. I don't think a coach that would risk his/her team's success campaigning for a job is the kind of leader I'd select. We'll see how this plays out. I do hope they have someone solid in mind so this doesn't drag on.

But that happens all the time. And it would not be Walz doing the contacting but his agent letting it be known that he is interested.

Usually, such moves reflect that the coach is fed up with the administration or sees the opportunity as dream job that can not be passed up.

It is a numbers and timing game. If Walz stayed quiet until after the tournament, the window of opportunity might have closed.

If you go back and watch her first several games of the season she didn’t look that bad. Her shot was actually coming along before Christmas and she was looking more confident. Then she regressed terribly. Which was pretty much par for the course for players under Holly. I understand the level of competition rises in the SEC but that’s the whole point of the non-con schedule, to prepare them for SEC play. Wasn’t getting done for sure. She absolutely has potential if she’ll make defense a priority.

Here is what`s gonna be a problem and part of why Holly lost her job. Westbrook came to Tenn as a pg because she like playing the point she played it all her HS career and told Holly she wanted to come ply pg. I don`t see her staying at Tenn if she is not the starting pg even if we get Evans.

Honestly, I didn't watch any of their pre-SEC games besides Stanford (didn't want to watch cupcake blowouts). I just remember her blowing a bunch of defensive assignments and being dared to shoot by the defense, and she was a hot mess in most of the SEC games I watched.

My general feeling with guards is you need to be able to shoot the 3 to be an effective player. Obviously, Holmes and Danberry from MSST prove me wrong, but that's basically what Massengill needs to develop if she doesn't have the long ball (plus their defense).
