Should 24 arrests warrant more scrutiny for Florida football? (latimesblogs)

LA Times? Locale of the Reggie Bush payoff scandal? Coming after UF? Maybe take the spot light off of them a little bit?

Meh, whatever.

if you take the time to look even minimally below the surface, something like 14 of those arrests were in meyers first year, and over half of the 24 resulted in charges being dropped or reduced to nothing, which doesn't surprise me because upd/gpd has a reputation for being cuff-happy with all students.
luckily meyer has the reason and common sense to handle each case individually. he boots players when they deserve it and keeps them around when charges are bogus.
as for being concerned about our reputation, most reasonable fans look beyond the '24 arrests' and see the true numbers don't show uf football as being much different from other programs (hasnt ut had 21 arrests in that same time?). as for me, I'm going to steal one from volnation and say I really don't care how others see us.

I nearly choked on my lunch when I read this statement.

Urbie has shown that he will keep the players who help him win, regardless of their crime. He only suspends for the games where it doesn't matter. To think he is fair in his punishments contstitutes the epitomy of being naive.

So far - I give props to Kiffin and Co. They seem to be cleaning up the program. Behavior has been a noticeable change.

What point does that make? Is that supposed to be a good thing?

Under Kiffin's watch there have been 0 in 7 months.

I like the mentality they are bringing....No BS or you're gone...I think they made a perfect example out of Morley, although I hated to see him go, he really needed to be gone

It's all about perspective. Funny how you can reason away these 24 arrests "individually" and even praise your coach on how he is handling the situations but then attack other schools for each incident they may happen to them.

it was a good idea for a story until he used Bleacher Report as a source

Florida Gators = da NEW Thug U

Say it with me, now. You know you want to.

24 arrests in the last four years. No other famed "thug" Florida program can say that. Not FSU, not UM. You KNOW you want to say it...

I am fine with UF recruiting thugs, in general. Reality is that if you want to win, you have to take some chances. I am fine with a minimal pot possession arrest or even the goofy getting the car out of the impound lot type of scenario.

I am not fine with keeping them on if they engage in any sort of criminal activity involving a firearm. Period.

Very reasonable and fair.

I see this the same way I see the secondary violations stuff at UT. The number of occurrences does not paint the picture. The occurrences themselves is what matters. A fog machine is not a big deal, and neither is a misdemeanor charge or less. I don't even think 24 over 4 years is that big of a number, considering the number of athletes we're talking about and the age group.

Fulmer Cup

Not really sure what that has to with what I was asking, but if you find a UF blog to be legitimate, okay.

Maybe you can post some Twitter stuff or Perez Hilton posts next.

I would rather be called Thug U and winning championships than Losersville. Which do you prefer?

You complain about “Fulmer Cup” originating from a UF blog but use "Thug U", a term UM rivals coined. At least my retort applied to UT.

Fulmer had his fair share of shady characters. Were you complaining about UT’s reputation back when we were winning championships?

I suspect that you are have resorted to calling them names in an attempt to diminish their accomplishments on the field. Pretty sad and pathetic that we have sunk so low that we find solace in name calling. Jealousy is an ugly thing.

Yeah, your retort applied to UT, but my comment didn't, nor did the article, which is my point. Some Florida blow-hard blog has nothing to do with the thread so I was unsure why you even brought it up.

Fulmer wasn't mentioned in the article either.

Please point out where I resorted to name calling. Again, I was referencing the article. May want to read it yourself and you'll catch up, maybe.

Yes it should...but Florida is ESPN's favorite team right now so they won't bring up anything media wise about it unless someone there does something so big and bad that not only does it make national news in the sporting circuit, but that alot of people click on the story online too
