Should AJ get some work at DE?

Coleman can tackle as a corner, but pretty much struggles in pass coverage, especially tracking the ball, reading routes, and anticipating throws. He played on Saturdays against 5 top 10 teams in a 6 week period.

How many of those games did we win? We're talking about good defenses. Not our terrible one for the last 2 years.

I don't think it'll be the case much longer. We're going back to a 4-3 football world. AJ would not be worth a roster spot since he'd only play 2 downs.

I prefer the 4-3.....but the 3-4 isn't going anywhere

I have to ask it. Why haven't we heard from Butch about consequences from the arrests and citations? It has been five days - plenty of time to talk to all individuals involved. I believe he needs to make a public statement about his response to the situation. I'm not looking for scalps, but I think he needs to make it public that these arrests are not acceptable at UT and let everyone (players, recruits, parents) know what price will be paid. Butch needs to get it behind him.

While the arrest of any player is a public matter, I don't see any or all actions deemed necessary by a Head Coach to correct a behavior or dole of a punishment as public matter unless if those actions result in a suspension or dismal of a player.

I said unless Sunseri runs your defense. I meant good defenses. I covered my rear when I responded to Miss High School Drama.

Coach Jones didn't like the way he tackled. He tackles four yards down field. So no, I do not like that and I agree with the hc. I would like his numbers better if he had more tfl's.

He had 8.5 tfl last year. For comparison, Maggitt had 5 in 2012.

To be fair, Maggitt missed a lot of snaps in 2012 and was never really 100%. But IMO I like to see the DL with the majority of TFLs because that means we are actually winning the LOS battle

No speed y'all say? He chased every rb sec had and threw them out of bounds. He has hit every rb Alabama has had in the mouth he's fast but not superman. The poor guy ays every down and gets tired. He will be a starter in nfl and probably a pro bowler. He's a natural lb. our defense as a whole has been slow since kiffin. When some of our freshman hit the field to help him you will see his speed again. Dude is a man child and y'all clowning on him

Did you miss the Auburn game? ;) No one on the field was fast enough.

I do agree though that half the problem was that he was on the field for almost every defensive play most games. He is not the kind of LB for that kind of play. If we can manage a way to sub him out on third down and longish, that will go a long way on its own.

Only way AJJ should play DE is maybe in like a nickle or dime package in obvious pass situations if our D-line struggles getting pressure. 95% of the time there is no reason to switch him from MLB, but im ok with putting a larger linebacker as a pass rush DE on certain plays.

AJ will be playing LB in the NFL... but we should play him at DE?

That would be like having PM on your team and making him a WR... just sayin

The man is a Tackling machine, the people who criticize him because of pass coverage are idiots... If we had a full roster of game worthy players, he would not be in on obvious passing downs. But as it stands the coaches have no choice but to keep him in. Hopefully this year that changes.

When the other team is going to run it, there is no one else you would want at MLB..That is worth some pretty good money in the NFL $$$$

Serious question guys. Should we let our new freshman kicker get some work at defensive tackle? We could maybe put him on the offensive side of the ball and let him protect the quarterback's blindside. Or how about putting one of our ball girls on scholarship and seeing what they can do in the return game? SIAP. Just my opinion. I'll hang up and listen

I'd take almost any other SEC middle linebacker over AJ.

Hurd would be a great D end with AJ... just get him some S&C and we have an all-star D-Line...
Hell, Josh Dobbs would be an incredible DE with some S&C...

Wait a minute. On one hand, you say people who criticize AJ for his pass coverage are idiots. On the other hand you say he wouldn't be in on obvious passing downs if he had adequate teammates, which seems to imply that you're criticizing his pass coverage abilities as well. Huh?

The reason everybody - and I do mean EVERYBODY - criticizes AJ for his pass coverage is because it's a glaring weakness of his. We seem to both agree that he shouldn't have been on the field on passing downs. I say it's because he's a liability in that situation. Why do you think so?

We agree that he's a tackling machine, at least between the tackles anyway. We also agree that he's an MLB, not a DE.
