people forget before they played SC that that OU team was being compared to the best teams of all time.

I thought that was just the 2003 team before the ass kicking they received from Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship game? I thought in 2004 they were just talking about how they needed to finish this time. USC was number 1 the whole way, I believe.

USC wasn't number one in the BCS at the end of the regular season. OU was comfortably in the number one spot.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure I remember USC finishing number 1 at the end of the 2004 regular season. OU finished number 1 after 2003, but I thought USC was number 1 in everything the whole way in 2004.

In any case, I was referring to the comparisons to the greatest teams of all time. I simply may have forgotten, but I don't remember OU getting as much praise in 2004 as they did prior to the Big 12 title game in 2003.

OU picked the worst possible night to play an awful game.

it felt like one of those games where, to win, they couldn't make any mistakes (& were going to have to score every time So Cal did)

once that fool of a punt returner tried to field that roller near the sideline, inside his own 5, surrounded by 2 or 3 USC players and then fumbled, it just felt like it went straight downhill from there

USC was ranked number one in the BCS poll every week in the 2004 season.

The 2003 season was where they were being hailed as one of the best teams of all time, that's the year they lost to Kansas State in the Big XII Championship and still made the National Championship. Ugh, Jason White....

OU looked unstoppable in 04, and then didn't get on the bus to go to the Orange Bowl.

yeah. That'll solve it. And if we gave a truckload of money to North Korea they wouldnt be communist anymore either.

Its amazing how some idiots cant see past the end of their nose. Yes Auburn was out of the picture. ONE team. All this bs over one team. And what would have happended if there had beena 4 team playoff/plus 1 that year? USC, Aub, and Ok would have been in for sure but who was that #4 team? California who was #4 in the BCS? Maybe #5 11-0 Utah. Well if 1 loss teams are in the mix then #6 Texas and #7 Louisville would probably want a claim at the spot. And dont forget than at #10 in the poll was 11-0 Boise State.

While unfortunate that Auburn was left out (even though they were the only one of the three to play a Div 1aa opponent), having a 4 team playoff would have been even worse. Some idiots dont realize that it would have cause more problems that what happened.

I would have to say no. Oklahoma would have more of a claim to the BCS national championship because, I dunno, they made the BCS national championship game. Say what you will about the BCS, but it is ridiculous to say that you should be crowned BCS champion without even appearing in the championship game. Had Auburn lost to USC, then they might have a better case.

Auburn shouldn't get it because it is one particular natl champ with specific rules - 1 and 2 play. The BCS is bogus and it would be more bogus to award it to a team that didn't make the CG.
