I realize they are walk ons but could be alot of benefit down the line with those 2 guys with a redshirt year and an extra year of development. What do yall think?

They aren't on scholarship...so you would ask them to pay their own way an extra year?

Well they are probably getting a grant but I don't know. I just think they could help us down the line alit like Steven Pearl did. I think a redshirt for both if those guys would help them and the team. Who knows they might earn a schollie later. I mean its not like they are going to play much anyway.

He's probably a good guy but if someone aint worth a scholly, why even discuss a red shirt? We'll be fine with the guard position.

NCAA only allows 2 walk-ons now. Ours are Lopez and Murphy.

I think Campbell is still around and may have agreed to take Rob Murphys slot next year. Look it didn't hurt in the elite 8 year to have 2 developed walkons in Josh Bone and Steven Pearl. It would be nice especially at pg to have Lopez ready if 2 pgs get hurt. I have seen that happen. You treat walkons like regular guys except they are walkons. It wouldn't hurt to redshirt those guys get them really playing great defensively.

I wish Cuonzo would stop being so close-mouthed about Maymon's injury status. He's making it extremely difficult to get a fix on exactly when he'll be able to return to playing status. Inquiring basketball fans and supporters deserve to know.

I understand what you're saying, but the ends just don't justify the means. These guys would be lucky to play 30 mins for their whole careers at UT (possibly exaggerated, but the minutes are miniscule). It's VERY VERY unlikely that we recruit scholarship players that would take a back seat to Lopez or Murphy.

You also have to consider that these guys would be paying for another year of college. It's just a lot of time and money for a relatively small amount of productivity. Unless these guys have JaJuan Smith syndrome, it's just not gonna happen.

It doesn't make any difference whether we know or not. I'm sure he has a reason, maybe to have our opponents in the dark too. Us not knowing isn't going to cost the Vols any games.

I am not arguing with that. I agree with what you're saying. But those 2 guys are actually pretty good players. Now a guy like Tyler summit no you wouldn't go to that trouble. But there is some value to having a really good competitive practice squad. And one of those things is being able to utilize a josh bone or s pearl if injuries occur.

Of course it makes a difference. Knowing that Maymon will be back, preferably sooner rather than later, gives the Vol fans a reason to have a much rosier outlook on the season. Not knowing whether he'll be back makes folks nervous about whether the Vols will be able to keep pace with the competition. Keeping the fans and supporters who ultimately foot the bill for your program in the dark smacks of an apathetic attitude toward them, if not contempt. There's no good reason to be so coy. I don't care what the opponents know about the status of our players as long as we're not being kept in the dark for reasons that are suspect at best.

Another thing is if you redshirt those guys it helps them in case they want to transfer down. It gives them an extra year. I just think its win win to help them out. They aren't going to play anyway.

Not an NCAA rule. Tennessee budget cuts. Makes no sense to me, but that's their story.

Brandon Lopez, Galen Campbell playing their roles in life with, without Vols » govolsxtra.com Mobile

That little rule by UT needs to go away. I think Campbell is basically redshirting this year anyway. He can practice with the team on the practice squad but he can't dress for games and has to have another role like team video asst. He is suppose yo take Murphys dlit next season. So he basically is redshirting

No way.

For starters, you're not asking these kids to pay another year of school than they already are.

Second, we have trae, Armani, skylar, josh and Jordan who all have PG experience...itd take an epidemic for us to see Lopez at the PG position for UT.

And last, walk ons come and go...when their eligibility is up and they graduate, we will replace them with other quality walk ons...now that we only allow 2, we will be pretty selective on who we pick IMO.

Well there you go you just said it bro. We will be pretty selective and they will most likely be quality players. That's what Lopez and Campbell are!! And btw Dave Hart needs to be thrown under the bus and put on the carpet for that 15 player rule. That's the most assinine thing I have ever heard. He at least needs to make it 16. And btw I have seen pg epidemics before in college badketball

Yea I said it, when they leave we'll get new quality walk ons...so why make them pay for another year of college to ride the bench?

Really, you've seen a team lose 5 PGs in one season?

Well this particular team doesn't have 5 pgs but they have enough combo guards who would play at pg before Lopez. So why not redshirt him and when the 5th year comes up he can make a decision to play at UT ir possibly transfer down and play somewhere else. But if he isn't redshirted he won't have that option when year 5 comes up. Considering he is not going to play anyway shouldn't we at least help him out by not having him burn a whole year with meaningless garbage minutes. That's all I am saying.

No. This team will always have combo guards...next year we lose mcbee but add hubbs and landry, 2 more guards...so we are only deeper next year.

Most of these guys want to be at UT, love the atmosphere and are happy to get ther degree from UT...they realize their future isn't in basketball.

So Lopez for example...why all of a sudden, pick up and move to north Dakota state institute of snow making university to play one year of D3 ball?

If these guys were concerned about actually playing, they'd have gone somewhere they could play...Lopez didn't come here with the expectation to play big minutes.

Well okay I guess Lopez feels that way. Campbell basically is redshirting. He can't even dress for games. As for Lopez once he goes into a game in the final seconds of a blowout his redshirt status would be over barring an injury where he could get a medical redshirt. So thus ends the story. But its a thought for sure.
