Student athletes spend thousands of hours each year practicing, playing, team meetings, visiting hospitals, doing interviews, etc. Between the coursework and their sport, they serve the university many times greater than you and I did while in college.

I came from a family that barely put food on the table yet I survived by working my ass off. A lot harder then these kids have to put through. Film? Practice? Please

LIO, being somewhat argumentative in nature, I would like to mention the following.
Student athletes spend thousands of hours each year practicing, playing, team meetings, visiting hospitals, doing interviews, etc. Between the coursework and their sport, they serve the university many times greater than you and I did while in college. Many of these kids came from much lesser incomes than you or I (believe it or not). I believe it would be beneficial for them to have some spending money. $600 per year = $50 per month. You know you girls would be offended if a guy asked you on a date to Krystal...right?

Most academic scholarships don't lead to millionaire contracts in the NFL either.

I'm not saying that they should get enough to buy new cars and expensive items, but I do feel that they should get something to be able to date and enjoy some of the pleasures of college life.

i never had much money in college
ate lots of Ramen noodles and drank whatever beer was on special that week.
room, meals, tuition, books is all a college student needs anyway, and there are lots of students at every school that dont get all those paid for. I think lots of those student atheletes would benefit from having to scrape by. Maybe one day after college is in their past they can be responsible citizens who have an appreciation of the privalege that they were given to play at a high level of competetion while not having to pay for it like so many others do.

Good point Dave. I ate a lot of peanut butter-- I just forgot until you mentioned noodles.
I'm a REAL VOLS fan but it just so depressing to see the school and team dragged through the dirt by the ungrateful.
I bet General Neyland is turning over.
Enough!
