After every great coach who transcends any reasonable results, there comes a stop-gap-transitional person who holds the table until the next great one comes along (if the powers that be recognize the extent of the problem).Who is our next great one--sure ain't Holly. LOL

This Question is EXACTLY where the Lady Vols program is at. UCONN.........is the least of our worries.
YOUR Coach is worried about beating UT Chatt or MTSU.
She can barely win the State.
It IS what it IS!

With Holly at the realm, the ONLY thing that changes in the narrative next year will be, How Bad it IS with the #1 Recruiting Class in tow.

It is embarrassing, the fans know it, I just hope the new AD wakes up!!

Hell yes. Maybe the hype and then losing by 40 will get her fired finally

I doubt it would have any effect whatsoever. The losses that have been piling up in the past 3 seasons are just as embarrassing. So, what do people do? They say, "well she went to two Elite 8s" sooo. The uncharacteristic + tourneys the 2 years before this one have been her life ring.

I doubt the AD has been to sleep at all. He's taking his cues from the boosters. And will enjoy it!

Remember the same ones who organized protests in the streets and literally summoned the State Legislature over the AD making unifying the name of all the teams. Those clueless people took over when the legend passed. We exchanged true leadership for the equivalent of a committee of bureaucrats. It may be a long painful ride down.

No we certainly don't need the them until we can beat the teams were playing now. Second he was demanding some kind of apology for his wrong doing a few years ago and that is something he want be getting from Tennessee.

There was some pressure for a game from ESPN a couple of years ago. Auriemma's response was that he would put UT on the schedule after the UT AD apologized to Maya Moore and UConn. He did not demand a personal apology.

Jeff Walz had his whole team and staff watch a Uconn practice his first year at Louisville, Scott Rueck at OSUw has I think visited. Lots of coaches have.
And it isn't actually what he runs that they generally talk about, but the speed and urgency and precision with which the practices are run, and the never settling for less than complete attention to every detail. It is never good enough until it is correct and it is never correct until it is repeatable.

Sounds like what I have been told by people who were there to watch what the "General's" practices were like. "Run it until it was right, then played it the same way".

I also think the nostalgia for the TN/Uconn rivalry is misplaced - when it started in 1995 with the regular season game and the NC game, it was #1 vs. #2, and that continued almost unabated through the next 14 years. TN and Uconn won 11 of those NC in the 14 years of the series and represented the absolute top two programs in the country on pretty much a yearly basis - the regular season games were mini-national championships. Any resumption of the series would be a monumental let down, and not just because TN isn't consistently in the top 5 currently, but because with Baylor, SC, and especially ND around there is no longer the exclusivity of that TN/Uconn era.

Uconn/ND has come close to matching that rivalry in recent years even with ND not winning an NC since 2001, because they met 4 times in a row at the FF with each team winning twice and once when they were both undefeated in the NC game. But even that didn't quite rise to that level because there were always other teams that were equally prominent - Baylor with Griner, SC rising, Stanford.

As for the premise in the article that it would expose the LVs to excellence - I don't really buy that - the LVs are playing plenty of excellent teams and beating them this year. What they need to find is consistency and a way to duplicate effort and discipline from game to game. The comment from an LV player after a loss that it happened because the team didn't think they needed to play that well to beat the opponent was a very telling comment about what the issue really is.

A phrase I've heard them use is "We don't practice until we get it right, we practice until we can't get it wrong."

Amen. I am a die hard Lady Vols fan. And i want so badly for Holly to be successful. And lets not fool ourselves. She has been. If and only mean if you look at the results. Elete Eights and Sweet 16. Those are great results. IF and again i say IF your Duke or Kentucky. But this is Tennessee where we are the foundation of women's basketball. Those are mediocre results for a University that Final Fours are the norm. If next year this team doesnt at least threaten or sniff a final four. And we see a team that looks like it has progressed. Then she must go. With a number 1 class and hopefully DD and MR back. Along with Jamie. And hopefully a healthy Cooper. With the new recruits this team should be very good. But i fear the train wreck has destroyed the team. They play with a broken spirit. It may just be time to light a new fire.

:thud:If you won't to get beat by 40 play U-CONN.:thud: They got a chance to win 200 straight they will win the next 3 NC's and maybe more this is the UCLA of the 60's everybody is playing for second they will set record's that won't never be broke if basketball is played for a 1000 more year's i don't see nobody beating them in the next 3 year's and that would put them well over 200 in a row.:thud:

What TEAMS does UConn have rivalries with? They've won 109 games in a row and are on track to win an unprecedented 5th national championship in a row.

I can't think of a current Top 10 rivalry in WCBB.

I would love to be listening to the call when Holly, Currie or anyone from UT calls King Geno and asks about a game. I would expect it would take about 15 minutes for him to stop laughing, then a blistering of cuss words that would blush a sailor would follow.

Tennessee played their hand, Geno called them on it and Tennessee lost. Best thing Tennessee could do now is stop living in the past (Young, healthly Pat aint walking thru that door tomorrow morning at 8am) and start rebuilding the program. If they do that, a game will UConn will occur but it shouldn't until Tennessee is strong enough to compete. They aren't now.

I think this was just a way for Adams to criticize the work ethic of the players and coaches without actually coming out and saying it directly. He is basically saying our players don't play with passion and our coaches don't demand it by comparing us to UConn. It's actually a pretty good strategy because of the animosity most lady Vol fans have for all things Geno. It is showing fans how far we have fallen without coming right out and saying it.

Holly shouldn't need to go watch UCONN'S practices. She watched and assisted PAT! If she didn't learn how to coach and win with Pat then she's not going to learn how to coach or develop players with a visit to UCONN. Geno is great don't get me wrong but Holly is apparently a slow learner.
