Why does it matter? I love getting to see Subway/Freeway/etc. Series. Just cause your Braves got smoked doesn't mean they should cancel it. With 162 games, why must teams be completely separated? No other league does that.
I wish that they would cut down the number of regular season games by about 60 and allow in 2 more teams for the playoffs
The sport has been watered down enough, in an effort to attract more fans. This, of course, would probably attract a few more fans; however, this would further water down the sport.
If over 162 games, a team cannot prove they are one of the best two teams in their League, then they do not deserve a shot at the championship, IMO.
Of course, I think they should also raise the mound back to the height it was at in the 70s and 80s, return to the old balls, and deepen the fences. This would bring back a lot of old school baseball strategy.

The interleague matchups and rivalries dilute the round-robin style which MLB was established upon. the only way I would support interleague play would be to see those games as exhibition (or, the results could determine potential home-field advantage during the WS).
Some rivalries distinctly favor certain teams though. The NYM have to play the NYY six games per season; the Cardinals have to play the Royals six games per season. Most seasons, this will give the Cards 4 wins, while giving the Mets 4 losses; that difference can be huge at the end of the season when teams are vying for wild card spots.
