Should Kim make this transfer an offer she can't refuse...

I would say no. Because she’s not gonna get her 30 minute avg of playing time to get her 25 pt avg on Rocky Top. IMO.
A lot of folks are acting like South Carolina is the frontrunner, but if that's what Latson is after, they're not a fit then either. This year they have no one averaging more than 25 minutes a game and no one scoring more than 13.2/game. The last time they had a player average more than 30 minutes a game was Destanni Henderson in 2021-22, when Raven Johnson was injured a couple games into the season and they had really limited point guard options otherwise. They've only had 3 seasons with a player averaging more than 15 points/game in the last 7-8 years (Zia Cooke 2x and Aliyah Boston 1x). A'ja Wilson was their last 20+ points/game scorer back in 2017-18 - before Dawn had the incredible depth she has annually now.

Given the guard depth that SC has (assuming Latson transferring in wouldn't push someone else out), and how Dawn has been using her depth the last several years, it would be with similar playing time and scoring expectations as Latson might have at Tennessee. We have 4 players averaging 23-25 minutes/game and SC has 3; everyone else is playing less than that. Talaysia Cooper's 16.8 points/game this season would tie Boston for the highest scoring of any player at SC in the last 7-8 years.

My impression is that Latson cares about winning and getting further in March first and foremost.

No because we have a minute crunch at the perimeter positions already next season. Only way would be if Cooper of Boyd transferred. We have five perimeter players coming in. We have one coming off injury. I guess we could ask some of the freshmen to decommitt and take portal guards. They are coming here to play only 120 perimeter minutes available.

I'm good with CKC doing whatever the hell she wants to do. She doesn't need any of us telling her how to do her job. She seems to be doing just fine.
Most on this site realize we're just having a speculative conversation and not "telling" or "letting" CKC do anything. OK with you if we do that?

Does she make you better?

She. He would be a totally different conversation.
I'm not sure Latson makes us better 19 shots per game yielding 45 percent and 34 from the three. She does get to the line some so that is a plus. If you get her your just cutting someone that might do just as well like Prawl. Civil, or Mya Pauldo. Right now we have Boyd and Mia Pauldo at the point that is almost a certainty. Cooper and Whitehorn ended up shooting 45 and 46 percent from the field, but didn't shoot as well as her from the three. I think if she comes here she would have to be willing to settle for 20 minutes and probably much less shooting. You give Cooper her 25, Boyd 20, Whitehorn 20 and each freshman 10 that leaves about 15 minutes and Hurst would need to play volleyball as no minutes left.

I think the teams big problem has been keeping the elite teams off the offensive boards. I see two post players that can rebound being of a lot more value for next season. If we had a cure for the offensive rebounding problem. We'd have about three or four losses this season. I see all the freshmen being excellent scorers, but not going to be huge grabbing boards. They will do what guards do three or four a game, but you need those bigs like Williams, Lattimore, Weimar, others that can not only run the floor, but get the other teams misses and prevent them from second chance points all game.

Do you want the best players or keeping everyone happy? Does she help you win?

I don't think she helps us win anymore than the freshmen we have coming in. I think who helps makes us win are the post players that I described in the last post. If Florida State didn't have Timpson in the post they would be about a .500 ACC team maybe even less. She is a good player, but we already have good players returning and great freshmen coming in so you either believe in your returnees and freshmen or you move them out and more others in. JMO were set on the perimeter positions, but if Coach Kim thinks she is a good idea she is certainly the person that would have the most knowledge about who she has and what she needs.
I can go either way, but I don't see it being a big help as far as why we lost a lot of games this season. It in no way remedies that situation.

I have no earthly idea, and I think there will be a lot of players in the portal because the portal numbers have been skyrocketing this year. Without knowing the kind of money she'd want, or the kind of money Tennessee has, and the plan they have for using it, I really don't have any opinion on "getting" any player in the current environment. If the money for that one great player would help Tennessee get two really good players who could help fill out a 10-12 man bench, then who would I be to say otherwise? So. Meh.

Perhaps the only thing I really think is that I don't know if any player short of the real game-changers is worth dwelling on. That's the new reality of college sport.

Dawn was hot to call a portal prospect after yesterday's interview. I wonder if it was Latson? Players seem receptive to her "trust the system" approach and lack of playing time doesn't seem to hinder her players from getting to the next level. But I have heard her say that she hopes to sign a true post from the portal.

Helps players comprise their stats for Dawn because they know they’re practically a lock for a final four every yr too.

I think Latson is an amazing player and I think 99.9% of teams would improve dramatically with her on the roster.

However, my fear with bringing someone on who has spent her college career being a one-woman show is that she could be TOO much and end up drastically throwing off the good chemistry among our returners next season.

Obviously there's already going to be some major adjusting going on after that basketful of adorable baby freshmen who all also happen to be amazing players is dropped off on campus, so the staff is (I'm sure) taking each and every incoming freshman and returner's personalities and potential in mind when considering who to offer.

This is NOT a simple matter of who is the best player, but who is the best player who will not affect the chemistry and balance.

As I've said before, I'm glad I'm not a coach these days. It's hard. 😲

Great observation and you saw how much better we played with Cooper more under control and sharing the ball more. Were going to need more rebounding tomorrow, but if Cooper plays a similar game and gets everyone involved Texas is in for a game.
