Now that the shoe is on the other foot would we be angry with Steele if he called
Garry Peters DB 6-0 173 4.5 5.8 Conyers, GA
Darius Robinson DB 6-0 170 4.41 5.8 Atlanta, GA
Desmond Brown DB 6-0 192 4.5 5.8 Centre, AL
Tavaris Barnes DT 6-5 250 - 5.8 Jacksonville, FL

I know I would think it was pretty crappy to take his kids away from Clemson by calling them. If they called him and said he was the reason they were going to Clemson and they wanted to follow him, I would feel differently.

If he did it from a UT phone, I would be fine with it. If he did it from a Clemson phone, then that would be a problem.

is he calling them from a Clemson phone while the team was being notified?

If they want to come, so be it. If guys didn't want to play for UT, so be it. My only objections with Coach O was that he was doing it on USC's behalf during a dead (or quiet) period, on a UT phone.

It matter what phone we use? Are you kidding me?

No matter what phone you use to make the call, you're still doing the SAME thing.

Is it ok if I make a call to cheat on my wife when I call from a pay phone or my personal cell phone? No difference.

Coaches switch staffs all the time in college. The manner that they conduct themselves during that transition period is what defines them as "honorable" (as honor goes in recruiting) or "snake".

Orgeron capitalizing on a decimated staff (No HC/DC/RC) and attempting to contact kids who were already enrolled is entirely different than Steele contacting Clemson's yet-to-be-signed recruits after he's been announced as UT's DC and replaced.

Terrible analogy. Because you're still under contract to your wife. Now if you were divorced and used her cell to set up a date then thatd be a parallel situation.

I hope he doesn't contact them. And, if they were to initiate the contact, I would hope he would speak highly of Clemson during the conversation and tell them he would like them to let the dust settle before making a change in their committment.

Here's the thing. It's no longer a dead peroid, he can call whomever he wants. As long as he's not doing it from a Clemson phone, before the ink has even dried on his new contract, I have no problem with it.

Also, just what DC Vol said.

Plus, Orgeron also called guys that were ALREADY ON CAMPUS and about to attend class the next day.

What Orgeron did was downright dirty, because, as one poster already mentioned, we had a big portion of the staff leave, and he was taking advantage of that.

If Steele is letting recruits know that he would like them at UT, it's quite a bit different situation.

Still, I'm kinda iffy on this.

I look at the Rivals website as Steele is not listed as the primary recruiter for any of those recruits. I think he should get settled in and if these recruits call an inquire about coming to UT, then he should explain their options. Simple fact, some players want to play for the coach that recruits them and coaching changes happen every year with coaches getting promoted or paid more in a more prestigious conference.

While I think it is generally the same d'bag thing to do, only this is under different circumstances....your explanation works for me.

What purpose, other than putting the stick in the proverbial pot of crap and stirring, does this thread serve? :p

I think Desmond Brown is fair game. He came to camp last summer and begged for an offer. When he got the offer, he turned around and committed to Clemson.

This is where the problem lies with O's contact. he contacted players already enrolled at the University.

For those that have not signed LOI's or enrolled, sadly, they are fair game. The situation needs to be handled delicately from Steele's position, though.

It depends...are they all early enrollees and is tomorrow the first day of classes at clemson? oh and would he be calling them from inside the clemson facilities? don't be ridiculous!

I have never even heard of any other coach doing anything this sleazy. Very wrong to mention Steele and O in the same sentence.
