You make it sound as that is the sole purview of philosophers...
He is patting himself on the back as we type.
Yeah, that's exactly it. I can't get a handle on you. Sometimes you seem mildly fair and pleasant, and others you become wildly presumptuous and disingenuous.
But, if you like to think I am patting myself on the back, I will. I am the greatest thing that has ever been. I want to go to grad school so I am special, everybody loves me. I piss Goldschlager. :wavey:
Tell you what fellas. You don't know what gruelling is until you have to spend several hours a day, multiple days a week with hot 18-22 year old coeds that oddly aren't attracted to short, fat, balding guys whose jokes and references all come from before they were born. It's brutal!

you mean it led us to having the greatest standard of living on earth?
That's not true. I don't agree with much of what he said, but the United States wasn't even top 10 the last time I checked. That said, the difference between the highest standard of living and the 15th highest standard of living is minuscule.
Since this thread has blown way way WAY off topic I might as well fan these flames with what I have been thinking about tura burst onto the scene. I just hope to God, that I, the taxpayer, aren't paying for your education through financial aid or some other crap. I am so tired of seeing all these jackoffs go for philosophy, art history, and any other major that has more odds landing them working behind the counter at subway then an actual position practicing the profession that cost them tens of thousands of dollars to obtain a degree for. I have no problem with people pursuing those professions but it damn well had better be on their own dime.
Absolutely. A pattern of competitiveness and achievement is the key.Well, I have to disagree with this one too. My experience shows that companies hire folks across majors and in truth, many large companies are looking at academic and extra-curricular achievement regardless of major.

it depends by what metric you use. by salary, home ownership, net worth, material posessions etc we are by far #1 across all classes. when they factor in things like vacation time, socialized healthcare (which i'd argue isn't an improvment over ours), and things of that variety then you are correct there isn't a difference.
I believe Monaco would certainly edge us out there.
