I will say this though, a strong senior season for Young could change my opinion. I just don't think he has what it takes at this point.

DOWNSIDE: His Ht is 5'7 and some have considered him to be too Small and Light to play Division 1 Football(Stanford has offered Him)[/QUOTE]

5'7" NEVER hurt Brandon James as he returned like 100 PUNT RETURNS and KICK RETURNS against the Vols and other SEC teams it seem like. Also, former LSU player T. Holliday was little and was a very successful KR and PR. Forget about size and weight and look at the kids heart!:eek:k:

The 4.5 and 30 inch vert could be out of date, those have been listed for a long time. I personally would like to see him in Orange.

I don't think it was Brandon James' heart that helped him return those punts and kickoffs as much as it was his speed. James and Holliday both had sub 4.3-40 speed, Young does not.

For an undersized guy a 4.5 40 and 30 inch vertical is not that impressive especially for a small guy. Less arse means less weight to lift from the ground. Vertical and long jump are measures of explosiveness. A good vert for a RB would be in the high 30's at least. Low 40's would be impressive.

Going off those numbers, UT should have recruiting 3-4 guys from our football team when I was in high school. They had better stats and didn't receive anything from UT...

Come on guys, take the blinders off. I know he's a local kid and everyone wants to see a hometown boy play, but his numbers aren't that impressive. Especailly when compared to other RBs in the country, and the level of competition that he plays against isn't all that great.. He doesn't have the size or speed to play in the SEC as a RB. Ask yourself this, if he wasn't in Knoxville would any of you know who he was??

you right he cant handle good competition:birgits_giggle:

He shouldn't be a major priority in my opinion, but we should still offer just in case we miss on some other top-level recruits.

He would be a gadget player if we did get him maybe some reverses a screen every now and then and maybe some toss plays. He would be like a poor mans Trindon Holliday. I think we should only offer if another SEC school does tho.

Trindon runs a 4.24-4.3 which is faster than any 4.5. jumping on any player looking like a freshman highschool player that isn't that fast would be crazy

How? Thats how he would be used if we got him and I think that the only way we would offer him is so we wouldnt have to play against him.

OK, maybe I wasn't clear when I said his numbers aren't impressive. I was talking about his 40 time and his vertical, not his stats. His stats are impressive but you also need to consider the competition that he faced when racking up all those yards. Plus, of course he's got a ton of yards, there isn't another offensive weapon on Beardon's team.

Knoxville area offensive player of the year as a JR
1st team all city/region last two years.
Region Player of the year last two years.

This is also a result of the lack of talent in East Tennessee, especially in the Knoxville area. Name a highly touted prospect who he has beat out for this award. Probably can't do it, bc there isn't one. Which is why he stands out so much.

Neither of these times would get him a scholarship at a major D1 Track & Field program, they are mediocre at best and probably not even good enough to win the State. So comparing him to Holliday is a HUGE reach, IMO.

I want to be clear, I'm not saying the kid doesn't have talent, he does. It's obvious that he's an extrememly talented athlete. But if you ask me if Tennessee should offer him, I still say no. Just my opinion - you don't have to agree.:)

I watched it -- didn't do anything for me. Skills competitions don't always translate to on field success. He would have a tough time getting off the ball in the SEC if he was to play WR.
