Here in Atlanta, Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech will not let commits visit other schools. If they do, he pulls their scholarship offer.
He says it wastes his time and messes with his recruiting strategy if he has a commitment that he no longer can truly count on, if they take other visits.

Should Vols consider doing this?
Pros? Cons?

Other schools use it against you. Bad idea IMO. Would make people hold off committing to you, therefore bo recruiting momentum

UT and GT recruit different athletes. You can tell fringe 4* or 3* they can't visit. Try telling that to top 100 kids. That's going to end well.

I'm sure there are recruits UT tells this to. Didn't this essentially happen with the LB last year who visited Texas.

I wouldn't. I remember Derek Barnett visiting mizzou near NSD. If we were to pull his scholly that would've bit us in the ass

Probably kids who you're either not afraid of losing or ones that you feel good about replacing. Very much like the Cherry for Kirkland swap. Worked out well for us in that instance.

Disagree. Contrary to how it may seem at times, most kids who commit... don't de-commit. They don't want to feel like they've reneged on a commitment. It creates a barrier even if they look around.

Also, recruits recruit... and some recruit for you when they visit other programs.

Bad idea! Let's us the devils advocate. Suppose Derrick Henry had committed to Bama and wanted to visit us but Saban was against him taking a visit to U.T. How would you feel about that?

Meh. Clemson and Georgia Tech don't have our facilities. If you have faith in what it is you're selling, you shouldn't mind if the consumer wants to compare. What TN is not selling as much of any more is immediate playing time at all positions and we're in a year where we should be selective. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more than the usual number of silent commitments in this upcoming class.

17 and 18 year old kids that have never been out of their state in their life should take all 5 official visits allowed, committed or not. It's about relationships and the staff should know by January where they stand with kids and who's just pushing their buttons.

I agree. Early playing time is no longer garuanteed.
