Showdown with Connecticut

Well, if TENN plans on winning another N.C. they have to go through UCONN. This year might be there best chance because if you think they are good now, they might be unbeatable again for the next two years. So hurry up and end the streak while there is a glimmer of hope and pray they put TENN and UCONN in the same bracket. Oh yeah, and don't lose.

I don't think the LVs will drop to an 8/9 game unless one of the current teams hovering around the 8/9 line makes a surprise deep conference tournament run (e.g. Michigan, Virginia, Oregon).

If Tennessee does end up in Oregon State and if the three Oregon girls cannot get prepared for that possible matchup, they deserve to lose.

I hadn't even thought about that. Imagine how good Oregon State would be with all the Oregon players Tennessee has. Crazy.

the three we have now are a BIG part of the problem with effort and consistency that we've had for 3 plus years.

The team would be worst without JN and MR, no matter which freshmen are coming in.

They may be inconsistent, but there's no guarantee the freshmen won't be the same or worse.

DD's draft glamour would drop tremendously after a game with UConn if ya'll wishes are fulfilled. UConn's defense will make her look like a no-show.

I truly think Diamond is not looking to be a glamour player. If you have watched her this yr she would rather get her team involved than to take over a game. Her style of play is perfect for the pros because she makes passes only pros would be able to receive and I think she will be an average scorer with great defense and a high assist %. That's her style.

I wonder if the LV make it to the E8 again if most of the fans will be happy.

This may be the saddest reflective comment posted this year.

Soon, it could be,

"I wonder if the LV make it to the "tournament field" again if most of the fans will be happy"

When you begin to lower your goals, you begin to accept lower accomplishments

Well, that's already happened. Holly is being praised here for making 3 E8s and a S16 as head coach as if that's meaningful for a program of Tennessee's stature.

We used to be in the Final Four every other year. Got eight national titles. Now the diehards want to feel good about losing elite eight games. SAD! We haven't even been to a final four in a decade! You don't lower your standards--not programs with traditions like ours. You get a coach who can muscle the program back to the top, where we belong.

Yes, the overwhelming majority of the fans will be happy if we make the E8 this year after this disastrous season. Most fans will not be happy if just making the E8 becomes the norm in the future, fair or not.

I feel like they were better this year than last. Yeah still ups and downs but overall I think better.

Specifically, Jaime and Mercedes are better. They are scoring more often and more efficiently compared to last year. But they miss that toughness inside that Bashaara Graves gave them for 4 years.

I think that last year's team had more upside and was the most talented team of Holly's tenure to date.

At this time last year, we had a better SEC tourney, but not near the significant wins of the top ten variety of this year.

This is going to be a very interesting finish.

For the players, it will decide if they are to lead or follow the incoming freshmen class...For the staff, can they finish with their team playing their best basketball, like last year.

At this juncture, an E8 would be an accomplishment for this particular year. It will take three wins to get there.

Four straight to get to FF.

But that's what great teams do. They win a bunch in a row.

Agreed. Honestly it's been better than I expected, considering last year's trainwreck and who we lost to injuries and graduation.

Last year the team looked flat out bad, especially on offense, throughout the entire season (until the postseason run). This year has been more frustrating in some ways, because they've clearly shown the ability to compete at a high level but haven't maintained consistent, energized play -- and the defense and rebounding aren't up to program standards (and maybe this is where we miss Graves and depth the most?).

The offense has slipped back into old habits plenty of times this season but a quick look at stats gives reason for optimism and are certainly a tribute to players putting in work during the offseason, but I *think* you have to give the coaching a least a little credit:

Points per game:
2015-16: 65.6
2016-17: 73.9 (+8.3)

Assists per game:
2015-16: 13.5
2016-17: 14.9 (+1.4)

A/TO ratio:
2015-16: 0.8
2016-17: 1.1 (+0.3)

FG%:
2015-16: 40.8
2016-17: 43.3 (+2.5)

3FG%:
2015-16: 25.4
2016-17: 34.6 (+9.2)

FT%:
2015-16: 70.9
2016-17: 75.1 (+4.2)
