I lived in Florida for 3 years and have been to Gainesville for a game and passed through on a number of occasions, so I'm basing my judgement on that. Maybe it's somebody else's dream home, but not for me. It's hot and miserable, the campus is fair at best, and the town is not much more than just that. At least in coastal Florida, there are beaches to justify the sandy, sticky heat. It's not about the football, as you can see that I voted for Athens and Auburn, and we're not real big on either of their programs.
As for the "locals," which was probably a misnomer -- I should have said "fans," because I don't know where they live. . . .I have never been treated so poorly as we were in Gainesville. We had things thrown at us from behind (very manly. . .), gum tossed into our convertible, and were berated and threatened AFTER the '03 game, of which we all know the outcome. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. I usually try to be humble in defeat, and at least courteous to the visitors, even in victory. You don't pull this "ya'll won, but your coach is still fat" crap and try to start fights with a group of friends who came to town as their one chance to hang out wife/girlfriend-free for the year.
It's off subject, but that goes for all schools (I'm not trying picking on UF). We had a run-in or two in Oxford, as well, last year after the game. It seems to be the younger fan-base/students, but there doesn't seem to be much hospitality recently. We're in the South, dangit, and you treat your neighbor as you want to be treated 'round here.

Yeah I agree there are some pretty rude fans down here, me not being one of them, but I'm with you on that, that no away team fan deserves to be treated as you were. Its mostly just drunk loser students causing most of the problems, but I don't think its any worse here than anywhere else, but thats my opinion.
And maybe just because I have pride in my school/state I wouldn't say we have a "fair" campus, actually its pretty nice and historic, and as for the weather, yea it is sticky and hot most of the time, but its nothing unbearable, at least once your blood thins after a while... :matrix:
