SIAP--Washpun

In a rec league game, someone blocked the shot of a girl on my team and yelled a similar expletive, and he received no technical (and we had already been given 2-3 technicals as a team for talking to the refs). I said to the ref that their language was worse than anything we said to get our technicals, and I was promptly given a techical.

This thread brought back memories of that ridiculous game.

No, it's a men's league, but women are not barred.
The girl who was blocked is actually more than capable of taking care of herself. She starred at a Division 2 school and played professionally in Europe. She's better than most of the guys on our company teams.

So it wasn't like the guy blocked a player who isn't any good. But, the explanation of the Washpun technical definitely took me back to that game; only time I've ever been ejected. Three of our guys got tossed at various points. They had a quick trigger finger when it came to calling technicals on us. Had they ever called just one on the opponent, it would have settled things down. Instead, they kept giving us reasons to think they were out to get us for something.

I spent an afternoon chasing Jennifer Azzi around the court as she came into town to train or whatever she was doing. That was brutal. I never guarded a man who moved as much as she did.

Ok just making sure you weren't swatting 13 year old girls shots into the stands haha.

I played against a few girls that went on to Carson Newman, I went to Jeff, ole ashley Kyle was a baller and a half.

A guy yelled that after blocking a girl? LOL.

Yep, like I said, she's an athletic girl who is very talented at basketball and "plays like a man" in the paint.

But, it still wasn't very gentlemanly to yell that. I do expect guys to play her physically though; she'll kill you otherwise.

That's still bushleague though. I get that guys are in a no win situation. If you get the best of her, you should because you're a guy. If you don't, you just got humiliated by a girl.

which is why at all costs you avoid being matched up on her. unless of course she looks like brittany jackson, then you play some tight in your shirt defense. :)

I was at UT in the late 80's. I think I remember Azzi coming to the basketball courts and playing then. Is that the right time frame for her?

Edit: Just Goggled her to get my facts straight and yeah it was Azzi that used to come to the rec building and make guys look stupid trying to guard her.

Ha. Then you probably saw me chasing her around. She didn't stop moving and would use other players as picks, even though they didn't even know they were setting one.

Just replayed the play and cranked the 2000 watt home theatre system up and I heard nothing from washpun, so whatever he said was mumbled.

It's called taunting. It's kind of a rule in basketball, ya know? You can't cuss to somebody's face after making a good play. Regardless of what you think about it, the call that was made was the correct call.

Actually, I would've rather he did the gator chomp in Boynton's face. At least he would've got his money's worth with that tech. Heh.

So you're really gonna claim at no point did any of the Florida players taunt?

Fact is the ref felt bad about the fans leaving with 8 minutes left. He felt bad because that "run" never came and Donovan looked like a deer in headlights as CM outcoached his ass like he was running over a speed bump. The ref felt bad for the experience gator guard who was laying on his back after getting his **** swatted, twice on one shot, by a guard playing garbage minutes.

That was an empathy sympathy T. Nothing more or less. Yes, it was uncalled for by Wash, but it deserves a T less than the ridiculous posing and screaming that goes on after a dunk or and1 nowadays. It would really suck to realize you are getting a T on a garbage minute kid because the ref feels sorry for your ass.

I cant find the video but I would bet Youngs reaction to the flagrant had a curse word in there. His reaction was a little pissy.
