Thanks for sharing your stories to you guys who have been there done that. I wonder if any of you have sleep apnea. It’s said to be quite common for NFL players. It contributed to Reggie White’s death.
My son is about 6'2" and 315lbs. and he has sleep apnea and he also snores so loud i think the neighbors can hear him.

I do. I wonder if it is something that is discussed with the players? I know my coaches never mentioned it.

I know it was tough. i remember seeing where former NFL offensive lineman Alan Faneca weighed over 300 pounds when he retired but three years later he had dropped more than 100 pounds and ran his first marathon
Jeff Saturday was another who looks like a completely different person post-football

That article says Bama has a freshman OL named Grant Hill that weighs 300lbs with only 6% body fat. Six. Not 16% like the other guy. That means he is like our VFL from the 90s Charles McRae....he was listed at 295 and had 6 pack abs. Incredible build...he could have been a WWF wrestler easily back then. He paired with VFL Antone Davis and both were All SEC 1st team on our Oline. They both had good NFL careers afterwards as well....if you look at the photos from the 90s (our team and rivals) it seems the steroids were pretty popular lol. I am sure that plenty of kids use them today also. Sadly, those drugs destroy your body longterm and tend to lead to early death. To be naturally 300lbs and have 6 pack abs is feasible i guess for maybe .00001% of the population maybe...

Most HS don’t test for PEDS. Kids can get away with virtually anything. I know of many cases where kids would be on a ton of stuff in HS because there was no testing. Many would get off of it once they got to college but not all of them.
If you get good stuff, it is really hard to trace even at NCAA and above levels. I had teammates that hit the juice all throughout college and were regularly tested by the UNI and NCAA and never tested positive. Like mini safes full of vials and separate refrigerators to keep contamination impossible and eating only home grown meats to keep other hormone levels down. They had high grade, expensive stuff and knew how to cycle the stuff and mask it so that they wouldn’t test positive.
Point being: if it doesn’t smell right, it probably isn’t.

Does the NCAA use the same testing protocol and procedures as NFL? WADA?
Those tests are very sensitive and minute fluctuations in hormones get flagged. It does seem odd that college athletes seem to be skirting the PED tests some way. You read about MLB and NFL guys getting popped about every week or so. Not so much about NCAA.

Not WADA or at least it wasn’t last year. Maybe that has changed.
Most cases that I know where people have been caught are 1: street drugs, 2: easily detectable stuff like amphetamines or other stimulants, or 3: really amateur level doping.
They are also known to not test much around big events. NCAA tournaments and postseason events are pretty low risk.
To be clear: I don’t advocate usage of anything. I never used anything wilder than protein shakes. I tell my athletes to stay away from everything and teach proper nutrition. But, PEDS are out there and at the amateur levels, testing is a joke. The worst part is that these young kids are getting hold of stuff and don’t understand what effects it will have in them long-term. That kid from Alabama may be that big and clean, but that is very difficult to do and requires a lot of people around him to know what they are doing with nutrition and s&c programming and they have to have the resources and control over him to make that happen.
