Simms/Clausen

It's a tight battle among Nick Stephens, Joey Matthews, and Matt Simms. You can call it being "Dooley'd" but if he had shown a slight ability to manage the offense he wouldn't have lost his job to two different true freshmen in back to back years.

He knew had to manage the game regarding when to run the ball and where. I would argue he's a much better manager than Bray

Rick Clausen has WAY more big wins than Tyler Bray at Tennessee. To say nothing of his older brother.

Simms got Dooley'ed. I personally think Simms should never have been pulled from the USCe game. Bray lost that game with nearly his first pass. Simms held the ball too long, but again, Chaney and Dooley proved beyond doubt they don't really do QB coaching.

Wow. I hardly ever bash players. Hardly ever and I mean that. But Matt Simms was the worst SEC QB I've ever seen. He should have never seen an SEC field unless it was when his Sunbelt team came to pick up it's paycheck. I know you live for blaming Dooley for every problem in your life, but Matt Simms was not his doing. He just had no business being there. Period.

Between Simms or Crompton who was the better QB? I almost had to go to AA because of these two.

Though talent/success may not have been consistent with the clausens and simms, they all had one thing in common--- heart.

OP, spend your time worried about the Berry twins... they could make/ break CBJ early in his tenure here as far as recruiting. Not many fans will be pleased if one or both slip away.

Yeah, I'd take Trent Dilfer over Dan Marino any day. The Dilfmeister won a Superbowl. What did Marino ever do?

Freaking morons.

Simms/Rick Clausen debate is a moot point, but I take ANY guy who wins me a championship over a guy who puts up flashy stats. That's why I like Tee Martin. Not the most talented UT QB, not the best UT career, but he brought home the glass egg! Call me a moron, but I like championships.

I'd take Casey Clausen over Tyler Bray any day of the week..

So would I. Casey had a great career at UT and played with heart. Plus he was a gamer and a QB you wanted with the ball down 6to with 2 mins to go. That LSU game was very unfortunate, nobody played worth a damn around him or he would have played for a NC. You could tell he wanted that game bad, just couldnt get his teammates to forget about the win against UF the week before. That team was one of the best teams I can remember, especially at skill position with Casey, D.Stallworth, K.Washington, J. Whitten, Eric Parker and Travis Stephens. I think that team may have been better than the '98 team. Atleast the offense was way better, but the '98 defense may have been better. How the hell that team that beat UF and destroyed Michigan in the bowl game was ready for LSU is beyond me. Still one of my fave Vol teams of all time.

Lol. Apparently you don't remember he threw a couple of touchdown passes to tie the game before the defense gave up 2 more scores. He in no way lost UT that game.

A successful football team is made up of AT LEAST 25 players doing a specific job. The quarterback gets WAY too much credit/blame.

I agree. Tee Martin had good players around him, but was a model of efficiency. That's my point. A mediocre QB who knows his capabilities, utilizes his players, and executes can be much more successful than a stat king. I'm hoping Worley and Peterman will be game managers instead of gunslingers. No QB can win alone, but he sure can lose it for you in a hurry.
