Strengths: Skylar is a solid three point shooter, at 39% with 168 three attempted last year, which is good. He can shoot on the catch or off screens, although he's better off the catch. He does a good job also of finding his spot on fastbreaks and hitting open three's. He is a solid rebounder, and had a couple 5+ rebound games last year. Skylar is a gritty, tough defender. He will get beat by quicker guards, but he is good off ball, and does a good job on help defense. Skylar is a very good post feeder, the best on UT, and protects the ball, with only 0.7 turnovers per game in over twenty minutes a game, a very good percentage. Skylar is deadly when he is able to set his feet from outside, and is great at free throws, shooting 85% this year. Skylar can also play point guard in emergency situations.
Weaknesses: Skylar is very limited offensively. He can only shoot three's and cannot create his own shot. He tries very hard on D, but quicker defenders can abuse him and he struggles with that badly. He also is not an effective point guard, limiting his offensive ability. Skylar has shown rebounding potential, but must be more consistent in it.
Final Thoughts: Skylar is valuable as an off the bench shooter who can spread the floor for your offense and give you toughness. But that's about it. He's best in small doses: about 15 minutes a game is when he can be most effective. Skylar plays his guts out, which is also valuable and provides toughness in the backcourt. He helps spreads the floor, and when he shoots well, UT does well. But when he can't hit from outside, he provides little value. If Skylar can be more consistent this year, he'll be an important part of UT's attack.
