Small explosion at Y-12. No leak

My parents live up the street and my understanding is that they recycle the spent fuel from submarines and maybe other nuclear facilities. What they do with the spent fuel I shudder to think.
They make tank rounds with the depleted uranium. I used to call on them back in the day. They look like lawn darts. They are enclosed in a sabot when loaded in a tank round.

I used to work with a guy that stole a certain item from that plant probably 40+ years ago. All I can say is I'm surprised I had kids after being around it.
Depleted uranium is harmless from a radioactive standpoint. At least that's what I was told. The guy I called on had a tank round on his desk when I visited with him. It's extremely heavy, similar to lead.

I wouldn't want to be around it still, if it gets inside your body it will still cause major issues.
