Small, small update

We must have watched 2 different videos. I saw Peterman with a very strong arm and decent speed and mobility. Both QB's looked accurae and seemed to have good footwork from the drills they ran. Now far as RB's very little was shown on that front.

Um, Peterman is only shown like 5 times.

A good friend of mine on the team told me that Worley has been killing it in practice. I know it's supposedly neck and neck, and I'm not saying Peterman has done bad, just that Worley apparently seems to be standing out the most.

Believe you're right, got some praise from Butch after yesterday's scrimmage....

On separate drives, the rising junior completed two third-down passes to Cody Blanc and one other conversion to freshman early enrollee Paul Harris.

"I thought he started to get into a rhythm," Vols coach Butch Jones said. "I thought Jacob Carter made some big catches at the end of the scrimmage. I liked what I saw in terms of Justin.

"He continues to really manage the game. The big thing, though, is just the overall leadership. If we're in the wrong formation, that command presence that we talk about, I can see him getting better by each practice."

Not sure how accurate that is. Seems like Peterman had the better scrimmage and definitely has the stronger arm and has more mobility. Think Peterman will get better and betterwith more reps and dusting the rust off. Tells me what I need to know that the QB race is neck and neck and Worley has the game experience and isnt rusty like NP. It doesnt matter to me which of the 4 QB's wins the job. We wont have to worry about favorites being played like the last staff and getting the best players on the field.

Why would Peterman be rusty, but not Worley? Don't think Worley got that many reps last year.

i doubt that Jones is favoring either qb after 1 week of practice.

I certainly don't think CBJ is favoring one either; too early. I for one am glad to hear that Worley is doing good, I really like him. I personally just feel that it's his time to step up and be UT's quarterback since he's waited under Bray's shadow until now.

New Offense, New Recievers, New Coaches, New Terminology, New Tempo... Cant put too much into where anybody is after 4 practices... The QB race will be week to week well into the season IMO.

The reports I've heard from people who have been at the practices is that Worley has seemed more polished this spring, and is the more accurate of the two quarterbacks.

I don't have any "inside" sources, these are reports I've heard on the EA show each day from people who attended practice.

I get the feeling both of these QBs have what it takes...it's up to the coaches to determine who has a little bit more of "it"

Both of these guys might get some action early in the season, though it's early. One might separate but I have a feeling it's going to be tight competition.

If these two guys haven't had any action yet, college life has changed a bunch :salute::salute::salute::salute:

Who was the qb in Brian Kelly's last year at Cincy? Tall, rail thin kid who never ran but was deadly accurate..

Tony Pike. He was better in the offense than the zone read dual threat Zach Collaros. When Pike was injured Collaros came in and subbed well for him. But Pike was the man. He had paid his dues, knew the offense, was very accurate with a lot of poise.

You can run this offense with either type. I like both of our guys. But I know when the bodies are flying around and you've got to make a play, I want the guy with poise that can see the field, make the right read, and get the ball where it needs to be that the team believes in. There are not many Johnny Football's out there that can make something out of nothing. So starting out at least, that has to be Worley. But I want to see both of them get their chances with the #1's to see how they do.

Havent seen where anyone has a problem with Worley. But for the offense CBJ wants to run Peterman is the perfect fit for it, with him recruiting Nathan as hard as he did at Cincy tells you that. In the interviews I have seen with both players Peterman makes himself more likeable and easier to pull for. Not saying Worley isnt, i have just seen alot more interviews with NP and he is exactly what you want from a QB from a personality standpoint. Both are talented and have things they do well. NP has the mobility advantage and a much stronger arm. He throws the deep ball better but right now Worley throws the shorter, intermediate routes more accurately. But in Peterman's defense he didnt play last year nor did he get 1st or 2nd string reps like Worley got plus the actual on the field PT against SEC teams. Obviously the Coach's will pich the QB who they think can make the fewer mistakes and manage the game better and not put his team in bad situations. I think ultimately Nathan wins the job be ause of his mobility, leadership ability and the arm to make throws Worley probably cant make. And when Dobbs and Ferguson comes in it gets even tougher for the Coach's. I will pull for and support whomever wins the job because I bleed O&W and want this thing turned around as quickly as possible.
Every article I've read leans more towards Worley. I think you guys just want another Johnny Football. And whose to say this offense is more suited for Peterman. CBJ has never said that but fans for some reason do. CBJ said his offense is suited for both. Just sayin. If Butch didn't say it lets not assume because then its a lie and not speculation.

worley starts the first three games then once we take the field against florida peterman emerges and we smash florida down the drain to drain the swamp on the 10th anniversary of our last win there.

It doesn't matter to you who wins the qb job? After that hit piece on Worley and lovefest with Peterman? Come on Jason, you showed your cards, just play em... you want Peterman, no big deal, just say so. If Peterman earns it I have no doubt he will be there vs Austin Peay in August.

By the way, why isn't Worley rusty and Peterman is? Just curious

Look, I honestly don't care who wins. I don't. If its neither of these guys and someone else emerges, plays great and wins the job that's fine with me.

But, everybody just lovin on Peterman before he's done anything for us to see, I just don't get it. I know the staff thinks highly of him and I do too, from what I've read. But to say he has a stronger arm than Worley? That's not what I've read from sources I trust. I actually saw the 2 guys with my own 2 eyes the first practice for about an hour and I didn't see really any difference.

Another thing, Worley was the QB that they sent to the press conference before the start of spring practice and I thought he was very articulate and represented the team well. I'm sure Peterman would have also as he is well spoken too, but it was Worley at the podium.

Also, I do hope Peterman is a little more athletic and is able to break the pocket well. But I heard Ainge and 1 other guy last week say that, very respectfully and as a matter of fact, that Peterman is in no way the dual threat qb that everybody seems to want to make him into. He's just not". Don't know why they would say this if it wasn't true. And no disrespect to anyone, but I'm trusting Ainge, a former SEC QB himself and lover of the program more than what any "Joe Poster" says here.

Just some thoughts to consider regarding the QB competition. I really don't have a dog in the fight regarding which one it will be. Just wanted to provide a little balance cause there's a ton of Peterman love/Worley dislike on here. I think we need to slow our roll and let it all play out.

No surprise here.

I don't think we'll know alot until fall ball when the rotations are getting set.

If the QB battle is really all that tight then we may see the 2 best in the rotation get some play time in the first 2 games to see how they do under pressure when the lights are on and it really counts.

If it's still that close after the first 2 games then I won't be surprised if CBJ plays whoever is HOT at the moment and will pull the starter if he's not getting it done and gives the number 2 guy a chance to see if he can get hot and move the ball.

bUTch seems like his ONLY priority is to WIN and it won't matter to him which players are on the field as long as they're getting the job done.

Simple coach...Make plays and you keep playing....miss plays and somebody else will get a chance on the field to show what they can do.

VFL...GBO!!!
