Smoke and mirrors

I was impressed with Auburn earlier in the year, but they have been less than impressive for the past month. Arkansas is the last SEC team, and they are great on defense at least. I'm not sure that will carry them past the sweet 16 though. They play way too many close games, and one will likely end their season before they make it much further.

The past month they finally played teams with a pulse and had to go on the road. Their toughest OOC game was UConn; they lost. Their toughest SEC games were UT and Arkansas; they lost. Their most impressive win was probably Bama in Tuscaloosa.

May hurt the league next year in NCAA selections and seeding. Vols were the best team in the league all considered. P.U. all the losses to lower seeded teams look really bad - what can be said?

SEC got exposed in this tournament…it just wasn’t as good as it seemed. In retrospect, the aTm run to the conference championship game was a warning sign.

I posted in another thread- the SEC was very good. Had wins over the top 5 in KenPom and at least 17 wins against tournament teams. It’s all about matchups and getting hot at the right time.

Wild to think that Tennessee and Auburn would combine to go 7-46 from 3 pointers in the second round…..

That's the vulnerability of teams that rely heavily on the trey. You have a bad shooting night, or face a team that is good at defending the perimeter...and, poof, you're out of the tourney. I thought that we needed a real power big to complement our perimeter shooters. We got some periodic good play out of Fulkerson, but I would have liked to see this team with a more seasoned BHH.

The SEC has really flopped in the tourney....

Auburn was just 6-5 in their last 11 games. They went 0-1 in the SEC Tournament and 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament, despite getting a very favorable seeding from the selection committee.

Agree. That’s why you need a big man inside and/or a slasher who dribble penetrate to the rim. Teams can get hot from three but eventually cool off by Sweet 16 or Elite 8. I didn’t expect both teams to go cold 2nd round.
