ACC must been better than some ppl thought
They came on late in the year but that conference was trash for the majority of the season other than Duke. For the majority of the season the next highest team in most metrics was somewhere in the 30s or 40s.

Auburn was just 6-5 in their last 11 games. They went 0-1 in the SEC Tournament and 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament, despite getting a very favorable seeding from the selection committee.

They earned a high seeding earlier in the year, but they obviously weren't that good recently. That's just not how the seeding system works though.

SEC got exposed in this tournament…it just wasn’t as good as it seemed. In retrospect, the aTm run to the conference championship game was a warning sign.
SEC beat the Big 12 in the head to head back in January.

Just because the ACC has been better in the tournament doesn’t mean it’s a better conference. It absolutely wasn’t this year and it really wasn’t close.

May hurt the league next year in NCAA selections and seeding. Vols were the best team in the league all considered. P.U. all the losses to lower seeded teams look really bad - what can be said?

The Big 10 had an even worse wipeout last year and it didn't affect them this year.

The SEC pretty well cleaned up in the regular season, UT over Arizona, UK over Kansas, Bama over Gonzaga etc. so it's hard to say they were overrated. But yeah the NCAAT results aren't good.

Seem like everybody jumped on the Auburn bandwagon early in the yr. not sure why though I just thought they were never that good, if they had played Tn. schedule this yr. I don't think they would have gotten a 2 seed. How do you like them now Chuck? Can't wait to see him cry now. Oh and Bruce too.

He was on the post show and did not cry on little bit. He said they got their butts kicked. He made no excuse as far as I could hear. He did say he would have hated getting beat by 2-4 points (less then 10 just can't remember) but getting dominated did not make him feel so bad. As to not being that good,,,, seems to me they finished pretty well in the SEC. Doesn't say much for the league as a whole does it? Which says the league was not the dominating force we thought.

......Or it's just how it goes during tournament season.

I don't want to get in the way of your knee-jerk overreactions, but take it how you want.

SEC appears to have been massively overrated this year[/QUOTE
You can’t judge a conference’s strength on success in the tournament. The SEC had 4-5 strong teams and 3 really good ones. The tournament is a new season and it offers no room for error. Great teams go down every year to lesser foes. This year it happened to be our best teams. The Vols are a team that never seems to peak at tournament time. But if you hand around long enough it might just happen. Arizona used to be the poster child for this, and finally broke through.
That's vulnerability of teams that rely heavily on the trey. You have a bad shooting night, or face a team that is good at defending the perimeter...and, poof, you're out of the tourney. I thought that we needed a real power big to complement our perimeter shooters. We got some periodic good play out of Fulkerson, but I would have liked to see this team with a more seasoned BHH.

The SEC has really flopped in the tourney....
No truer statement has been made concerning the way offensives are now played. Makes coaching a lot easer when all you have to do is watch individuals dribble around the three line, stop shoot or on occasion drive toward the basket hoping for a layup or/and a foul. Don't take much to be a wizard coach with 5-8 mil salary when you can find guys who can shoot the 3 and hit layups.
Coaching, like the players now days are just not what they once were. Granted the guys are bigger, maybe as fast, maybe better athletes, but for the most part not as good as the players from the past. The same for coaches.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but only ONE team advanced to the Sweet 16!

The conventional wisdom is that the SEC was overrated. That may bode well for next year when the talking heads and tournament seeders undervalue the conference. I'd rather go into the tournament underestimated.
