Youâre exactly right. Nobody took it to the hole. Nobody ever takes it to the hole with this team. I donât get it.You're absolutely right. I watched the postgame remarks with the player of the game, Xavier Pinson. He said, âUT whipped us at our place, and Cuonzo told us that weâre going to do whatever it takes to out-tough Tennessee tonight.â And MIZZOU did just that. Tennessee played badminton at the 3 point line all night. No one took it to the hole because they were scared to.
Umm, I think they actually have a better team than us . They have a guard that can create his own shots as well as a force in the paint with Tillman. We look basically like the same team that went 17-14 last yearItâs OK Mizzou wonât do anything of note this season. Their ceiling is dictated by their coach. Iâll hold out a sliver of hope for us if we get healthy
I prefer Nate Oats. The style of basketball his team plays is the future. While Barnes has had a great career, UT offensive basketball is just that, offensive. While I wasnât crazy about his style of play here, it was clear to me he could coach. Heâs doing a good job there so maybe thatâs home for him.
I still prefer Barnes but give Martin his due tonight.
Well, he was definitely excited - I saw more emotion out of him last night than at any point when he was here.I guess Cuonzo is a happy man tonight. He just took a team that was picked to finish towards the bottom of the SEC and took Barnes and the Vols who were picked to win the SEC ( which isnât going to happen now) to the woodshed. Not sure what has happened to this team but the energy season energy has completely disappeared. No leadership, no rythym on offense and no hustle on defense. We havenât had a lead in the last 80 minutes of our games. Are so is making $5M a year so I have faith heâll get it figured out.
Uh. We took them to the woodshed at their place. They just beat us at ours.
We are not quick enough to guard the perimeter and not physical enough to guard the post. No go to scorer. Not sure the current system fits this personnel. Fulky gets manhandled every game. He canât help it. Body type does not allow him to be physical. He has also lost quickness due to hypertension of knee...this sounds trite but when weâre at our best itâs because the sum is greater than the parts. Vescovi, fulky, pons... we are absolutely not going to win when these guys are in isolation trying to score on their own. We have to have better offensive schemes to play to each of their strengths.
Yep, and it's really obvious how smart you are. Why don't you just stick to the point in your comments? I'm pretty sure there are several posters on here with higher IQ's than yours. Retarded? (Wanna compare IQ tests?)
Sprinter will certainly make a difference but the way this team is trending, who knows. They look really bad.You had me up until this post. This is an emotional overreaction. Every point you have made is accurate. Tennessee has been atrocious with the ball. Missouri did a lot of copy cat things that Alabama and Florida did... and they worked. Barnes needs to make some serious adjustments. To use a baseball analogy, opposing teams have figured out how to hit our stuff and we are playing with no confidence on offense.
... and not to make excuses, but they were without Springer again. There is no way to know what a difference he would have made but he did have 13 points and 4 rebounds in the game at Missouri on December 30th.
They also picked KY 2nd and LSU 3rd so that shows how much the preseason pickers know. To add to that they picked Boston as the freshman of the year.I guess Cuonzo is a happy man tonight. Adrian Dantley was much more of an inside player. James has an entirely different skill setWhich means we're trending down. I think for this team to have lived up to the preseason hype everything would've had to be perfect.
Meaning:
1) Anosike would be contributing in the post about 20 minutes 7 points 5 rebounds. He is generally at a disadvantage thus his minutes have reduced.
2) Fulkerson would've continued to make strides as a leader. Instead he's looked like the sophomore Fulkerson. Generally invisible besides mistakes.
3) Pons was supposed to have driving ability with the ball. His outside shooting has improved and defense is stellar when he doesn't go for the fake. He's still a liability on the board and his post play is weak.
4) We were counting on the Big 3 recruits to be contributors. Springer and Johnson has lived up to the billing. Springer has been injured or hasn't played in every game we've lost. Walker Jr, hasnt played at all.
5) The preseason we expected better PG play because we had more ball handlers.
6) JJJ is a solid player but as a 5-star guard he lacks explosiveness and speed. He is 6-6 and he don't seem to be able to dunk on anybody. I think they are still working on his position. He could be an Adrian Dantley but he can't find his shots.

English is a nice comparison, based on skill set. James must develop a scorers mentality. His apprehensiveness when driving to the basket is bewildering given his handleDantley was a 10 - 15 ft midrange game player. He wasn't overly athletic or a tall post so that is why I made the comparison. I agree Dantley overall was an inside guy but he wasn't a complete liability with the ball in his hands. I have a faint memory about it but how about Alex English?
