What sport? Basketball or football? I thought the rule is both uniforms have to have enough contrast.

And again, our earliest football jerseys were black and one year it was more of a smokey gray/lighter black color, so it's definitely linked to actual history having a black/darker gray jersey.

If we went to a black/smokey gray uniform full time I could understand, but we're talking 1-2 games a year in football, men's bball and women's bball. And the baseball has used black for at least 2 decades now, and prominently, and no one really had a problem with it.

I've hated the black for the BaseVols. Always have. That's one thing I love that Raleigh did while here. I wish they would be like the softball team and wear orange socks.

NCAA basketball rules: Section 5, Articles 1-8 "Opposing teams must wear different colors. The home team wears light colors, the visiting team wears dark, but by mutual consent of both teams this rule can be modified."

So, unless the opposing team agrees, lighter gray cannot be worn at home,though Orange could as long as another team isn't orange, because it is light.

Yep, when people look back at the Cinderella Tennessee run back in '14 they will see a team wearing gray uniforms. Cant imagine why these need to be worn in the postseason. Its one thing for a random game. A uniform that consists of 90% gray for the biggest games of the year is a wholesale color change.

Is it going to help us replace a few of our incoming recruits? The best idea would just be to get a coach who can build a strong program and recruit well.

And, a bit off topic, but I've looked at that link with the color rules back when everybody wanted black uniforms, and I honestly don't remember a "Smokey gray" until recently. Makes me we wonder if the AD and University opted to oblige this coach. Wish I had thought of screenshotting it back then.

The smokey gray stuff is a recent addition that was added when Addidas put out the new uniforms.

No, because that's akin to changing our colors from orange and white (on a neutral background like black, white or grey) to yellow and purple.

Apples and oranges comparison there. Adding grey to the color palette is akin to adding the "Whoo" in Rocky Top, and it is unjustifiably b!tched about in equal portions as well apparently.

Except one is official, while the other is not. People could, technically, do whatever they want to Rocky Top, or the Pride could stop playing it all together and only play Down the Field. When there were two departments, Down the Field could not be played at Lady Vols games because it was the "official fight song of the men's athletics".

But, if the players want it, get rid of the fight song, if the football players want to run through smoke screen and blow up tunnels why not let them do that? It's all about them.

So far. The players already want a DJ in the stadium instead of a band playing the fight song. And some say "it's only one game a year". What if the Pride decided for one game a year they didn't want to play the unofficial fight song? It's what the members want, they're the ones playing the instruments.

At some point you have to draw a line, and that line keeps getting pushed back.

The omission of Rocky Top is taking away part of our tradition. By adding an alternate uniform, we aren't taking anything away. If the band decides they want to add "Livin on a Prayer" to the game ensemble once or twice a year, have at it. Some people will still b!tch because it is something different, and that is the real issue here. Traditionalists don't like change.

Edit: And if it means they only play Rocky Top 48 times instead of 50, I'm sure life will go on.

But it takes away the orange, which is the point. A wise man once said (paraphrased again) that every game is SOMEONE'S first game. Why take away something special of the typical game day? I grew up listening and watching the Vols on the radio and tv. I finally went to my first game and the things that stand out to me are all the things that make UT special: the Pride, Vol Walk, and most importantly the sea of Orange. Why deprive someone of that in their first or only experience there? If I wasn't able to go as much as I can, I don't want my one time to be gimmicky.

Neutral sites are fine for that stuff, but Neyland and TBA are special places and need to be treated as such.
