SMU Players Sitting Out Season

Isn't this pretty much what the guy from Houston did when he stopped playing after the team sucked and transfered to Miami. I think his name was D'eriq King.

Didn't really work out for him.

Sooner or later, schools and the NCAA are going to have to make some changes. Having half the team sit when a team starts 1-3 is going to cause some problems.

All the comments about “idiots” and “woke”. Explain your comments to me. These players are on the front end of the future if the rules are not changed. It through 4 games you don’t feel you are at the right place just stop playing for the year. You maintain the year of eligibility and can enter transfer portal at the end of the year. Not sure how this makes a player an “idiot” or “woke”.

Well if you willingly decide to stop and not for medical reason and your intent is to transfer. I feel you should lose your scholarship the rest of year. Why should your current school take care of your education expenses and allow you to workout in training facilities to get better to use at another school that could possibly play you next season. In essence grooming your competition on your own property.

I wonder why you never see this same energy when a coach leaves the players he recruited for a better job

Telling recruits they’ll lose their scholarship if they choose to explore transferring is a quick way to torpedo your program.

I don’t disagree with you in principle however.

Definitely wouldn't happen anyways. You are right. Administrators would try and block it because of litigation. All it would take is one kid saying they were psychologically in a bad place or was bullied or threatened and then lawsuit. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I get the sentiment but isn't the number 1 job of all universities to prepare someone for life after school?

I don't know if the decision by the players to sit qualifies as Idiotic or woke but they are going to have a difficult time being accepted by another coach after quitting on SMU unless they are really talented.

The transfer portal has such a poor history of placement, except for the exceptional players, the lack of offers from legit contenders will provide the appropriate punishment. Where are our transfers and how are they doing? To'o To'o is the exception to the general rule. Mauer is at SF Austin and not starting as he is completing less than 40% of his passes. Jordan Allen landed at Weber State. Kivon Bennett landed at Arkansas State. Chandler did well with UNC.

Ego comes into play in all of this, but the reality is a crapshoot. The placement at a "better" school is rare, let alone at ANY school. NCAA: Over 40% of FBS transfer portal entries did not land at new school

Usually, the guys that announce they are transferring no longer have access to team training facilities. I know when I was a student at UT, the transfers would be working out in the TREC.

It is. But not for free. If they aren’t going to earn their scholly then they should pay for their education like the rest of the student body.

I get it but I also get the players point. They're goal (realistic or not) is to prepare for and get to the NFL so once they realize they aren't getting what they need at a school why not save eligibility and get ready to transfer? With all the $$ in college football now I find it hard to criticize players for looking out for themselves.

I agree. They didn't write the rules.
