There should definitely be some equity in signing numbers for teams that have transfers. I say let players have the freedom to transfer, but the school should get a spot back above the yearly limit. This is one reason we have so many players who can’t find a landing place. Schools are pinched on their max 25. So, they may lose 35 player with graduation and transfer but can only sign 25.And thats why they should have the choice to pull scholarships.
Actually, a school that loses transfers can replace up to 7 with added scholarships each year. I get it but I also get the players point. They're goal (realistic or not) is to prepare for and get to the NFL so once they realize they aren't getting what they need at a school why not save eligibility and get ready to transfer? With all the $$ in college football now I find it hard to criticize players for looking out for themselves.
Yes, but this is temporary, no?Actually, a school that loses transfers can replace up to 7 with added scholarships each year. D-I Council waives initial counter limits in football

Welcome to the new world of NIL:
No play, no pay should be part of NIL (including bowl games).

I was gonna say "millenials." They're 40 years old now and everybody thinks they still have braces and work at dairy queen.Right up there with "cancel culture".
I wonder why you never see this same energy when a coach leaves the players he recruited for a better job
I realize you're just accusing everybody on earth of being a hypocrite, and it's meaningless, but I just wanted to point that you receive no points for this. It's totally misguided.
The truth is, people really hate it when the coach quits, and it's a huge deal. I have no defense for the kind of contracts that these coaches have, but it is true that for a coach to resign, he would literally have to pay the school some fee which would be typically millions of dollars (Lane Kiffin curiously excepted). It's not some fairy tale. Players might not like to receive that treatment. I'm not saying that (insert coach) didn't kill a guy, is not a hypocrite, blah blah blah. I'm not saying all fans aren't horrible people. You may be right about that. I'm just saying your comment here is not very well thought out, as there's simply no evidence that everybody is a horrible person around the issue you mention here. It's obviously the opposite. The students under NIL have amazing financial freedom.
It's possible that the students will evolve into employees, but right now, everybody is afraid to navigate those waters. I don't suppose it's worse at all, but just "new" and nobody wants to unleash the massive amount of work that would be required to convert the sport into full semi-pro ball just yet.
Reminds me of Jalen Hurd. From what I remember he basically quit on his high school team after he committed to UT.Evidently, SMU has several players sitting out rest of season to preserve eligibility so they can transfer.
College football team reportedly to have several players sit out rest of season to preserve eligibility for transfer
Well if you willingly decide to stop and not for medical reason and your intent is to transfer. I feel you should lose your scholarship the rest of year. Why should your current school take care of your education expenses and allow you to workout in training facilities to get better to use at another school that could possibly play you next season. In essence grooming your competition on your own property.
Respectfully?
Are you so used to making assumptions that you somehow think you know me?
You know nothing about me or my ethnicity.
It's not new. Houston had their QB and a couple other players do it back in 2020. Even before that with grad transfers you would see people sit. The 4 games and preserve a redshirt is relatively new so you wont see much history beyond these five years or whatever it's been. The real question is. Is this going to become a new reality because of the transfer portal option?
