SNL is having a 3 1/2 hr special on NBC at 8pm est.

Looking forward to this show as I remember when it first aired. Very edgy stuff for a 15 year old at the time.

A lot of careers were launched because of this show.

Enjoy.

Remember the skit where John Belushi was an old man reminiscing about how all the other cast members died before him. Crazy to think he was the first to go.

Pretty week bit with Eddie. I Think he and Lorne burned a few bridges.

It seems like I'm watching commercials with an occasional SNL part squeezed in.

I started watching the first season - I was in college during the worst years so I didn't have to suffer through the early 80s version.

Pretty amazing impact on the culture. I'd still rate the late 80s/early 90s (Carvey, Meyers, Hartman, Hooks, Lovitz, etc) crew as the best though none of it would happen without the original cast.

If you didn't watch the original cast when it was live you probably can't realize how out there it was compared to other TV and the times in general.

That was the era of my preteen youth so I can't disagree.

I would also watched the early years on Nick at Night around that same time.

The first few years defined SNL. Anything after that was copycat and wannabe. It was a steady decline after that. The 80's and 90's were hit and miss. I haven't watched since then.

Eddie Murphy and Phil Hartman breathed new life to the show imo

The last 10 years have been bad imo . I try to watch it occasionally, but it just isn't that funny anymore. Or maybe I'm just getting to old.

Best cast imo was when Bill Murray joined the originals, minus Chevy. John Belushi was my all-time favorite. I was also a big Farley fan as he was like the second-coming of Belushi. Just so sad they died so young, and in such similar circumstances. And Eddie, Eddie Murphy was SNL during the early '80's. He did some brilliant comedy on SNL. I was really hoping for more from him tonight.
