Didnt see this posted elsewhere. Real poll comes out tonight at 7pm, I think?

Where does that put us? and What will it mean?

I am going to say it almost assuredly means we are still in the top 10. And definitely a good chance to make it to a NY6 bowl. Provided we:

1. beat the hell out of Vandy
2. GA whips LSU for the conference

Problem is now if they want another SEC team thats 10-2 Bama is in the mix as well but since we beat them do we get chosen first?

Edit - more math

So this year Fiesta and Peach are semis, leaving Cotton, Orange, Rose and Sugar - 8 slots

From the SEC you have

Georgia most probably in the CFP
LSU beaten by GA in the SEC and is a 10-3 team
Alabama
Tenn

You cant tell me that SEC wont get at least 2 of the 8 slots - meaning we SHOULD get into one of them.

Not sure what the bowl situation is but I hope you are right. More than that though, I hope we do #1 more than any of the other things right now. Will be nice if we do and they do and that happens though.

Honestly, it doesn’t really mean much of anything. The committee doesn’t base anything in their decision off of the 2 polls…if anything, the Coaches and AP are the ones usually trying to course correct themselves the following week to better match up with the committee’s rankings.

I think if they had to choose between us and Alabama they would take Alabama even though we won the head to head since it was a close game and we’ve lost Hooker. Both of Alabama’s losses were close and to good teams, where we were never really in our two losses and one was a complete debacle to a trash team. Hopefully I’m wrong and it’s just my BVS speaking.

Alabama and LSU will more than likely still finish ahead of us. If we win against Vandy best bowl we are possibly looking at is the Cotton Bowl, in my opinion.

No. Alabama has lost two road games by, what, a couple of points? Against a rising LSU and a fully-operational Tennessee. And Alabama was competitive in both.

Tennessee was not competitive in either the UGA or USC game, and USC was unranked. The USC loss is a black mark on Tennessee's record, and puts Alabama ahead of Tennessee in terms of post-season selections, as thing stand.

FYP

That poll is a joke. No decent coach has time to pay attention to following the games and voting in a poll during the season.
I know, I was riffing on the ole VN trope that "(faceless entity having undesirable opinion of us) hates us".

Yes, Georgia would have to steam roll LSU and UT would have to win convincingly. I can assure you the Sugar wants LSU.

Outside the playoffs does it really matter which bowl we go to? The extra practices of any bowl is more important at this point than which bowl we get IMO.

I think it does for recruiting and marketing of the program in "year 2". But to your point, I am not sure it matters as much as the practices. And hey, for a guy like Milton who is likely running the show next year - THIS is invaluable.

I think how Tennessee plays on Saturday will dictate where they go. I hope it’s the same team with Milton that it was with Hooker, but I’m not sure it will be yet. If we look competitive, we might get the benefit of the doubt. If we look bad again, and even if we win, I’d say second tier bowl for sure.

We screwed ourselves by losing last Saturday so let’s just get to the bowl and win after we have whipped the crap out of Candy and move on to next year

It’s probably not a huge deal but I think it still helps the brand to get a New Years 6 bowl.

It ABSOLUTELY matters.

I realize this may be difficult to comprehend but since it was created in 2014 Tennessee has NEVER been in a NY6 bowl. Meanwhile 8 of 14 in the SEC have had at least one appearance. So it would be another first for Heupel and staff.

It doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish and the better bowl we get, the better chance we have to improve our final ranking. We also desperately need to wash the stench of the USC loss off of the program with all eyes on us. You better believe that top recruits care about being under the biggest lights available and being at a program that is in the top tier. Next to CFP, NY6 is the very definition of top tier. All bowls outside of it are interchangeable.

So YES, it very much matters.

I comprehend just fine Bud. You have your opinion I have mine and beating the crap out of Vandy and whomever we end up with in a bowl with will do more to wash away the stench than our final ranking, and extra practice will help continue the success we have enjoyed this season.

The way I understand it is the Sugar Bowl will take the highest ranked SEC team NOT in the playoffs. Just by that and if LSU loses in the SECCG that will give them 3 losses and Bama would then be ahead of LSU in the poll. About everything I've seen is Bama in the Sugar....Which sucks...but we did it to ourselves.

Unlike last week...lets just go win this week.

We should be above LSU, but below Bama IMO, but I think the committee will put us as the #4 SEC team.

Bama's 2 losses are both to top 10 teams on the road by the narrowest of margins. We got clobbered by South Carolina in Columbia and LSU got clobbered by us in Baton Rouge. So IMO that means Bama > Tenn > LSU. But I think the committee will (wrongly) put LSU above us.

No particular reason other than TN killed a lot of good will last weekend with that loss, I think TN ends up in the Cotton Bowl at best.

Alabama is Alabama and the Sugar Bowl would love LSU off of a good showing against UGA.

Side note.

Does Bryce Young play in a relatively meaningless bowl game for Bama given he is being projected everywhere as a top 5 pick?

Same for Anderson.

Maybe that takes a little bit of shine off Bama but I dont see anyway one of the big bowls doesn't take them over TN the way things played out last week.
