So Arch Manning

I think that’s entirely possible. The one thing I’ll say in Arch’s defense is that I think he’ll always put in the work. Everyone around him will be able to guide him to do the right things to succeed.

I think the talent around him will mask the areas he needs to work on. If what is said about his HS team is true he’s the only one with any talent.

I don’t think Arch considered Tennessee & not sure Tennessee considered Arch. I don’t believe Tennessee ever got even an unofficial visit from him

I can see that but why Texas? They look like a sinking ship. He can still change course.

I actually thought he would end up at Georgia. That would have been a smart pick.

I heard Arch likes going to school in Austin & the offense under Sark
He'll probably transfer somewhere else when Sarkisian is fired as head coach of Texas. I could see him going somewhere like FSU,Ole Miss or Notre Dame.

Picked Texas... Texas over Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, etc.

The same Texas that just lost to another mediocre Big12 rival (Texas Tech) today.

Why?

He should have gone to Georgia.

Because being the latest Manning at Ole Miss or Tennessee is not as good of a gig as restoring Texas to greatness, which is what he aims to do. He wants to be a legend and be marketable and this is the pathway with the most potential. My $0.02

Wow. A lot of uga butt-kissers in here. The insecure, affirmation seeking, lurking uga fans eat that &$#@ up.

The fact that Arch saw uga for the trash program it is makes me like the kid even more. Will he live up to the hype? Unlikely, but I suspect he will be a solid QB.

And his first decision was a solid one.

If Arch Manning leaves Texas i want him to go to FSU i do not want him to go to Ole Miss,Alabama or Georgia

Georgia has signed a ton of really highly ranked QB's under Smart, few of which even play.

I can only think he saw Alabama and Georgia and liked the schools fine. However the one think Peyton did to the Manning family was place enormous pressure of going to a famed SEC school not the family heritage school of Ole Miss. Archie admitted the Ole Miss fans were hard on him in Book of Manning. Even though Texas eventually will be in SEC it doesn't have the same historical sting of going to Alabama, Georgia or Tennessee that Ole Miss has crossed paths for decades. By the time Arch suits up for Texas and they are in the SEC it won't have the same feel of treason as a longstanding SEC power.

Or, maybe, he visited Alabama and uga and didn't like either. Saban strikes me as, at best, an ego you put up with, and for a kid not coming from meager upbringings His Sabanship may be too much, while a kid who sees Bama as his only shot at fortune might be willing to put up with the 5 foot egomaniac. As for uga.......all I can say is well done, Arch!

He chose to go where he believes he will get developed best. Sarkisian is very good at developing QBs. That is why he is going there.

Also, Texas is starting their back up QB.
Texas has one of the most stacked QB depth charts in the country. Hudson Card was a 4 star and the number 2 dual threat QB in the country in his signing class. Seems like if sark was such a good developer, he could win with Hudson Card.

I know somebody that played safety for sark, when sark was head coach at U Dub. He said the entire team hated him. Now, he did say that had a lot to do with sark drinking and being a drunk A hole, but who knows how the Texas team feels about him. My conversations with his former player, made me think he wouldn’t succeed anywhere. But I could be wrong. I’m wrong all the time. I do think Quinn Ewers is good enough to succeed in spite of Sark. I don’t know X’s and O’s on a coaching level, but I do understand them more than your average fan, and his offense has never impressed me.

Quinn Ewers is a generational talent. Idk if he’ll make it in the NFL, but people with his potential come around, every so often. Look at Tony Elliot. I always thought all of the Gus Malhzan type offenses (like Gus, Chad Morris, Tony Elliot) were pedestrian, but when you have Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawerence, that offense looked pretty good. The problem with those offenses, outside of the play action game, lack explosive passing plays. Idk what Clemson is running this year, haven’t watched them and know they have a new OC, but this is one reason you saw Clemson be worse last year than they have in years past. It’s about the Jimmy and Joes for some, and for some (like Heupel) it’s about the X’s and O’s. One size doesn’t fit all programs. If anyone tells you different they’re lying. There’s a bunch of different ways to build a program. Great X’s and O’s make the players look better, great Jimmy and joes make the coaches look better. More than one way to skin a cat type of thing.

Coming back to my question, why didn't he consider Ole Miss? It seems like Lane Kiffin would be a great fit to develop him as a QB.

I can totally see that. Saban, to put it mildly, is not a guy you commit to if you need a lot of smoke blown up your ass.

John Talty, who is hardly a Saban critic, was on Andy Staples's podcast the other day talking about his new book about Saban. He told Staples that folks who work under Saban currently and have worked for him in the past all say "if Alabama was any less successful than they have been under him, nobody would work for him."

I don't think anybody around him, except for maybe Miss Terry, likes the guy. They are just willing to pay that price for the rewards, which is basically winning the national title every other year and parlaying your time at Alabama into being drafted/another coaching job.

Maybe he knows Saban won't be there another 3 seasons.
