Yes, also the last season that there was undefeated national champ (Indiana, 32-0). Normally, teams nowadays would have played several more games, but due to Covid, the number was down. Gonzaga is 26-0, and it takes 6 games to win the NCAAT. 26+6=32...could it be the year, 45 years later?
But they also play a brutal OOC schedule. Even in a COVID year, they played and beat Kansas, Auburn, West Virginia, Iowa and Virginia by an average margin of almost 15 points/win. And they were scheduled to play Baylor and Tennessee, both of which were cancelled. I won’t ever accuse Gonzaga of ducking competition.Gonzaga should get an asterisk IMO if they do it. Their regular season schedule leaves a lot to be desired because they play in a very weak conference. One of the real reasons why they struggle in the big boy tournament.

If anything, their poor conference competition likely hurts them, both in perception and in preparation. When they tip off in the NCAAT, it will have been nearly 3 months since they played a ranked team. Zags have my complete respect and deserve any accolades they receive if they finish it off.

I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one SEC team in the Elite Eight this year.
Thats the thing about this year with TN, if they get past the first 3 games. The EE matchup is favorable that they could break through. There honestly isnt anyone in the bottom half, I dont think the good TN couldnt beat.Recent years there's been a few sec teams that have made deep runs when not expected. Wouldn't be shocked if that's UT or LSU this year given the draws. Illinois will be tough but no one else in the bottom part of the bracket scares me if I'm UT. Elite 8 between LSU and Bama would be cool.
