When I was younger I was really into Camaros. I know for a fact the LS1 engine fits damn near perfectly into a Miata and that's the only acceptable reason to own one.

couldn't disagree more - while the 97 is underpowered it's easy to tune and the fun of blasting to red line through 3rd gear without going to jail beats ridiculous HP that can only be fully utilized on a track.

Have you ever had any problems with getting the top up and down? Completely random, I have no idea if this is an issue with Miatas.

I do remember it happening in convertibles in earlier years. I once shivered my way from Durham to DC in a dormmate's Corvette after the top blew back and couldn't be reattached to the windshield. In the snow. In December. He had to go on to Long Island. lol

nope - takes about 5 seconds up or down.

We have 2001 Miata. Manual 5spd is way to go. Get a Hard Dog rollbar if ya can, from Tommy Beroth, Bethania, NC.

I had an MGB that was amazingly comfortable

I've done that. But, not completely in the car.

I dug into this thing today.

Did a compression test.
C1 145ish
C2 145ish
C3 145ish
C4 145ish

Which i am happy about but there is a ton of oil in C4. Do you think its the valve guides leaking oil into C4?


I also pulled the codes:

P0733
P0510
P0732
P0734
P1170
P0740

All transmission codes but two.

P1170 heated sensor right bank
P0510 closed throttle position switch malfunction

Overall I am happy with the purchase.

Update!!

I am now divorced...

Nah, she kinda likes it I believe.

I didn't tell her I plan on spending about 3k on it though.

Going to get another trans and going to go through the engine and replace gaskets, rings and oil pump.
