So I guess we are standing pat with what we have.

We got a Bishop, and used to have a Pope, HOL-LEE....

Despite the hollering of pontiffs, I remain concerned about our DL depth, as we seem too light for SEC ball after the starters.
We are stronger at DL than we have been in a long time. Plenty of depth, I can’t wait to watch them! It’s gonna be fun! GBO!

I hope so. Looking at the roster, it didn't seem so. Just the same, I think the team will make noise enough to do some payback games.

Depth (experienced depth) is my concern with our running backs.

At least 60% of our rushing yards come from RBs reading the defense pre-snap and knowing which way to cut (i.e., knowing from which direction their first tackler will be coming) before they get through the initial hole. No matter how fast and talented, young backs need time to develop that kind of understanding, and experience at the SEC level to slow the game down enough to execute it.

Plus, RB is a position where injuries can mount up fast, even before the season starts. Our talented young backs will need lots of reps. A portal addition who already knows pass protection and reading defenses would be a lovely insurance policy to have right now.
Naw not necessarily… that a zone scheme… we run both gap and zone scheme. Regardless though we are looking for one cut and go because of the overhangs being stretched out from our WR splits. This offense is designed for speed.

Im concerned with the depth of negs posters. Only a few responded to this thread.
If you’re not concerned about our quality depth at oline and dback, you’re a much more optimistic person that I am and most impartial observers.

This staff has earned some leeway.
I am concerned about DBs and OLine myself.
I'll believe we upgraded the secondary when I see it. I hope it is undeniable, but I'm not sure.

Well let’s see:
Added the #1 portal TE; beat out UGA for him.
Added a true LT from LSU; one of the highest rated Oline from portal
Added one of the better WRs as well with starting experience.
Added a Dlineman from Stanford with starting experience
CB from Oregon State who started as a true freshman
Safety from MTSU, CB from Temple. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone.

Who the hell were you wanting them to add?

RB I saw mentioned. You’ve got Sampson who has earned the starting position, Seldon who played some as a true freshman, does have a little injury but still on schedule to be back before season start, Keith, Bishop also. I’ll grant that likely if they had the numbers you might add a guy there. I think we kicked the tires on one guy in the portal that ended up at Texas. Hadden was someone mentioned a lot of places that people wanted to add; he’s struggled in pass protection so I don’t see that as a fit.

Portal players are not automatically better than people already on your roster. I think they have a "shiny new toy" effect with alot fans so they want Portal players and view it as a failure if they are not obtained. The reality is that if we thought there was someone willing to commit who would have helped us, they would be here. The coaches clearly felt what we had was better than who was willing to commit at this time.
Also most good portal players are just looking for money.

Seldon doesn't have a "little injury" he had shoulder surgery and whether or not he is back by the start of the season is still very much unknown. God forbid if Sampson were to get hurt in camp we would be in some pretty deep sh.

You’re completely right there was no timetable given to the coaching staff by the doctor. Let’s all panic.

You seem to always feel the need to “teach” the board something. We thought we’d see a portal addition or two for depth purposes. I haven’t seen anyone call it a failure. We understand the reality is that if there’s someone who our coaches think can help, they’ll be here. Your last sentence is probably spot on.

No panic big daddy...just calling it as it is.
If we were at 85 I think they take another guy. What was available like Boone (headcase), Hadden (pass protection issues), Martinez (wanted 400k for a year in NIL) wasn’t great at the top end. I know we did talk to Boone and passed, wanted another guy as well but I can’t remember who it was. What we could get wasn’t any better than the potential of bishop and Keith imo and I think the staffs as well.

were they healthier options than bishop and Keith though? Or am I getting mixed up and those guys weren’t injured?

Seldon and Peyton Lewis were injured...Keith and Bishop were not. Just not as talented based on what we have seen. Well to be fair we haven't seen much of Bishop.

We have four scholarship running backs in Sampson, Seldon, Keith and Lewis. DeSean Bishop was a three star that is a preferred walk on. There are another two walk ons currently on the roster. That is five highly recruited D1 RBs. UGA has four. I think were good.
Highly recruited?

Good to hear.

Tell him we’re all hoping for a quick recovery and a great year for him. Rehab sucks but keep the spirits up.
Will do Chad, we appreciate that. He said they told him 2nd or 3rd game but I told him make sure he's 100%. He said for sure
