Thunder, since you have the formula for Rivals could you do me a favor? Plug in Couch, Arnett, & Clear & bump Smith, Randolph, Kerbyson, & Jordan Williams to a 4* if you dont mind & tell me where that would put us in the rankings. :hi:

Ill be the first to admitt, I'm far from a recruiting expert, but dont you think Crowder would get a 4th star before Kerbyson?

No, Kerbyson should already be a 4* but Rivals doesnt have him listed at his projected position.

Texas either has mass amounts of overrated guys or Fulmer doppleganger Brown and Muschump are just as overrated as most already thought. They've lost that team, they quit on them last week.

We will end up with more than 5 four star players whether some of our current commits get bumped or not. We are about to get a couple in the next few weeks and then wait til DD gets in those living rooms!!

As far as the star argument, come on, we all know how it works. You want 4 and 5 star players with a good mix of 3 stars, we all know this. You also have to have good coaching and consistency. Nobody wins all the time, so giving an example of a team losing that has highly rated players is not all telling. Neither is a team that has lower ranked players but is winning because of good coaching. I really dont understand the constant arguement over this. It is pretty simple!

Rivals 250 is now out. A.J. Johnson, Pat Martin, Coleman are the only three in it. Unless it's not finished. It says "Updated 12/31/69"???

Maybe...but their QB is terrible too.

Can't be. He was a 5* and stars mean everything.

BTW, it isn't just Texas that is undermining confidence in the recruiting services' definitive word. USC is getting beaten by teams that supposedly have much less talent along with Miami, UF, FSU, Clemson, UGA, UNC, ND, etc.

UCLA has had 3 consecutive top 15 classes and sits at 2-4 in the Pac10, 4-5 overall.

I think many are missing something important. These recruiting services don't necessarily risk business on their accuracy. They are in it to make money, highest revenues at the lowest possible costs. They can make the evaluation to cut staff for an insignificant drop in "quality"... thus they can go the better part of a year without an analyst in FL or cut other staff or go to cheaper staff. If they are still 50-60% right then people will keep buying. If a coach is wrong that often at a high level program then he gets fired.

Finding talent is far more important than chasing stars. Coaches who come up with a formula for doing that will do well regardless of what Rivals or Scout thinks.

Why are stars so important? I mean I'd like to see a few big names but for some reason I think the coaching staff evaluates talent bettter than 99% of the posters in this site.

I was listening to Coach Kelly on ESPN radio last month on the SVP show he was talking about how he thinks ratings are overrated because he said he just has a couple of 5 and 4 stars and his best players were 2 and 3 stars. His coaches go after players the need instead of relying on some websites rankings...I agree with him to a point, but its a player with heart and skills is what UT needs right now...UT will be back lets just support them and stay on our bandwagon!!!!Go Vols

If Texas wasn't coached by a glorified Fulmer, they wouldn't be sucking this year.

I don't believe you SGM,,, You know that physical talent rated by stars don't take into account heart and desire or the mental part of the game. Last year they had Colt,, who is proving to be a great leader even in the pros,,, maybe the team has no real team leaders , no mental toughness. to blame a coach for this one year is weak,,,

Don't forget that football is broken down into five parts:

10% Toughness (physical and mental)
20% Skill
10% Talent
40% Heart and desire
20% Intelligence

Mack Brown walks into a gold mine of high school talent every time he gets out of bed, yet he's won his conference a whopping 2 out of 13 times. He's the most overrated coach in the country.

So, tell us... who is YOUR idea of a good coach? And for the love of God, please don't say "Lane Kiffin".

I agree Mack Brown isn't that great. There is no excuse to be as bad as they are with top 5 classes every year.

Some good coaches would be: Harbaugh, Chip Kelly, Frank Beamer, Kirk Ferentz, Nick Saban, CUM, Gary Patterson, Chris Peterson, Tommy Tuberville and etc...

Nick Saban agrees with this post.
