So I hear a lot of rumbling about some fans not wanting Strong, Fisher, or Fedora. So who do you guys want not to sure and would be interested in knowing? Please give a reason if you have one. (Also if you say Fulmer I can tell your birth date is probably pre 1970)

According to the local paper, Hart interviewed Charlie Strong yesterday and would be interviewing Mike Gundy today and is expected to make a decision this week. The waiting is about over and I believe the Vols are ready for better days.

Mike Gundy doesn't know what Defense is. If they hire him then I hope he has one hell of a DC coming with him.

And... may I ask what is wrong with someone who is born before 1970? Since when did Vol fans start discriminating against one another due to age? Grow up and get a life... dude.

Tennessee: Don't be surprised if former North Carolina head coach Butch Davis ends up with the Tennessee head coaching job. Davis is currently serving as the special assistant to the head coach with the Tampa Bay Bucs. Here was my initial report on the Tennessee job from November 19

Butch Davis: Davis (60) is cleared to coach, but will the negative perception hovering over Davis related to the academic fiasco at UNC deter an athletic director from contacting Davis? He is a proven winner, who recruited at the highest level as the UNC head coach. Davis stated just last week that he's ready to coach again. As the special assistant to Greg Schiano with the Tampa Bay Bucs, there's no question Davis would jump at the opportunity to lead the Tennessee program. A source close to Davis tells me that Tennessee, in fact, is THE job he wants.

I would not mind having him as HC, but he will have to find a DC that knows how to defend the SEC teams. Otherwise, we find ourselves in the same boat from which we just jumped. He would probably keep Graham but am not sure about any of the other coaches.

Due to the Dooley Experiment, UT is sooooooo far behind every other team in the SEC that the lure of Gruden, at least for me, was his NFL resume. Charlie Strong is a good college coach but we need more than that. The Marathon started years ago and we are still at the start line. We need, not want, a major, impactful, NFL and possibly college experienced coach who can show these kids the promised land. Saban, just happens to be a good example. If you were a college prospect, is there any real decision between playing for Strong vs Saban? NFL experience is a requirement Hart. Hope you are reading these threads

I was also against Davis because of the stuff at NC. However, I read yesterday that he actually had no involvement in that mess. He is a good coach and is wel organized. I would take him over Gundy and Strong despite his relative young age of 60. Look at KState and you will see that good coaches can win at a high level into their 70s. Again, he would have to improve the defense which he now runs.

I wouldn't pay any attention to coachingsearch.com, we're not getting Butch Davis, dude hadn't done any serious winning in almost a decade.

This is abject stupidity. Dooley could not coach on gameday. However anyone who can look at the roster DD inherited and the one the next guy will inherit and see "the Dooley Experiment" put UT behind... is incredible deluded.

UT's problem started with the long decline from 2000 til his firing under Fulmer. Kiffin was a hit. Dooley could not win but he CAN build a program and roster as evidenced by La Tech.

I fully agreed that he had to go... but give the guy credit for being a good set up man.

There is a lot of talk that we may still get Gruden even though there has been a denial of interest. I remember Saban said he wasn't interested in Bama and then suddenly he was their coach.

We need a recruiter that can seduce teenage boys like Megan Fox. Coordinators that can play jedi mind tricks on opponents. Position coaches who are the Sylvan learning center of football. Simple, isn't it?
