UT is a special place that deserves the best coach money can buy. We need a proven recruiter and winner who is in for the long haul .

What part of Mora's 73rd ranked defense do you think would get it done in the SEC?

Considering the turn around of UCLA in one yer, playing in a league where the defense is usually an after thought, seems he did ok. His defense was better than UT's, with less talent(IMHO). Oops, lets not forget that the SEC is known for their defense.

I was born in 85 and I would be much happier with Phil than those coaches but that's just me I guess. Either way I hope things work out.
Go Vols!

I wouldn't pay any attention to coachingsearch.com, we're not getting Butch Davis, dude hadn't done any serious winning in almost a decade.

That's right, don't pay attention to one of the more reputable sites on coaching. Great thought process you've got going there.

As for winning, I guess three straight 8-5 seasons from 2008-2012 don't count. The guy turned around a pathetic Heels football program in the 4 years he was there.

In January, coaching search.com reported that Buddy Green had been hired as our new Defensive Coordinator.

So he is not 100% accurate.

I trust skeeter on here more, and he said golden, Gundy, Davis and Gruden were all eliminated.

We need a recruiter that can seduce teenage boys like Megan Fox. Coordinators that can play jedi mind tricks on opponents. Position coaches who are the Sylvan learning center of football. Simple, isn't it?

Megan Fox is a VFL and she could recruit. Not sure we could pay her enough though.

Strong or Gundy would make me happy. Golden would send me into a rage.

OK...seen several posts like this about Al Golden. Would somebody enlighten me on the hate? Just wondering? I have confidence in Mr. Hart in this process.

This is abject stupidity. Dooley could not coach on gameday. However anyone who can look at the roster DD inherited and the one the next guy will inherit and see "the Dooley Experiment" put UT behind... is incredible deluded.

UT's problem started with the long decline from 2000 til his firing under Fulmer. Kiffin was a hit. Dooley could not win but he CAN build a program and roster as evidenced by La Tech.

I fully agreed that he had to go... but give the guy credit for being a good set up man.

Au contraire mon ami, au contraire. You are a severe apologist. You, like every VN fan, would expect either a Gruden or Grudenesque coach to come in here and win in 1-2 years, right? Why? Because they are good coaches, and good coaches can take a team that they have inherited, learn their strengths and weaknesses, a field a team of winners.

We have had the luxury of having great athletes at UT for decades but it is our lack of coaching that has kept those kids from tasting success. CDD was an experiment - in "let's see if we can take a completely unknown coach with little to know coaching accomplishments, hand him a team of good athletes, put him in one of the biggest laboratories in the country, and see what he can do". CDD was an experiment - nothing more, nothing less.
And I agree 100% with your observation that CDD could not coach on game day but, he couldn't coach Sunday through Friday either. He never had the skill set for this experiment to be successful.

We need a Defense. having said this Charlie Strong is the best candidate. the D's he has built are stellar, and with a good OC We can be competing at a high level quickly. Strong for HC

Due to the Dooley Experiment, UT is sooooooo far behind every other team in the SEC that the lure of Gruden, at least for me, was his NFL resume. Charlie Strong is a good college coach but we need more than that. The Marathon started years ago and we are still at the start line. We need, not want, a major, impactful, NFL and possibly college experienced coach who can show these kids the promised land. Saban, just happens to be a good example. If you were a college prospect, is there any real decision between playing for Strong vs Saban? NFL experience is a requirement Hart. Hope you are reading these threads

Dear Mr. Hart.
I hope that you are not wasting your time reading these threads. (like I am)

I met Butch Davis at a fund raiser a few years ago. Was not impressed. He really seemed full of himself and very egotistic. Granted it was only one meeting but that's what I came away with.

There is a lot of talk that we may still get Gruden even though there has been a denial of interest. I remember Saban said he wasn't interested in Bama and then suddenly he was their coach.

I keep hearing this that Gruden himself decline the job. Where is that coming from? I have seen nothing in any major Media that directly quotes Gruden. How did this info get out? Cant trust an agent. So, did Gruden Himself, talk to the media and say he wasnt interested?

Guys, I know this has been posted before but my sources say the Gruden deal is not dead. People in the know have known this smoke screen would go up. It's all part of the plan. Just sit tight.

My sources? Volnation and Volnation.
