So is it safe to say that Vandy's basketball team was criminally overrated?

The Missouri Valley has some good teams this season. Vandy is too talented and too well coached to continue in their tailspin. I wouldn't count them out of going deep in the NCAA Tourney this season. Still it is good to see them struggle like this.

And to think, their fans were asking the Nashville sports radio hosts if there was any reason to watch this game.

They will probably tear up the SEC schedule, finish 2nd or 3rd, and promptly lose their first 'AA tourney game.

I had a chance to go to this for a dollar per ticket. I'm a bit upset I passed on it after seeing the score.

I did that before the season started and still do now.

Don't. Buy. Any. Of. This. They will lose in the first round if/when they make it in.

Oh that would be awesome and hilarious but very unlikely.

Vandy has some very good players. I have only watched them once. It appears they do not have a point guard. Stallings knows the game, but for some reason it does not appear that he gets consistent effort from his guys.

I saw the Jenkins kid play in HS. Came into our gym and I guess he expected everyone to treat him like a superstar.

He took the ball in for a slam on the opening tip and was laughing on his way back down the court. I believe that lit a few players up.

He got roughed up with some good solid D the rest of the game. On his way back down the court one time he looked over at the opponents fans (mostly parents), grabbed his "package" and yelled "suck this". This was his response to "hey jenkins, you suck" that came out of the stands.

He didnt handle the pressure on the court or in the gym well that night at all. I have had a few arguments with fans that claim
1) that he is the greatest kid ever
2) that this stuff just happens all the time
d) that I would take him on my team if given the chance

And all of the above are wrong. Id rather have high character guys that dont get rattled, and play their butts off. jJenkins is talented and can really fill the bucket. But if given the chance, I would have passed on him.

EDIT: But I guess I should add - If you are Vandy, you kind of have to take who you can get.

Sorry, but I know the Jenkins family. He is a good character kid. He did what most any targeted player would probably do in such circumstances.

This is what I keep hearing, but he was not "targeted". He was double teamed. He is a talent. Might be a great kid. But if I were recruiting him, I would have walked away from him that day. Nah, probably wouldnt have scrapped him, but I would have backed off a bit. No doubt. He spent the entire game revealing his worst character. (and I know a little about recruiting college kids, been there done that)

But your last sentence, I completely disagree with. I have seen some rough basketball games. I watched Earvin Johnson (you might have heard of him) get triple teamed and have his knees taken out from under him by several teams, especially in the State Tourney runs, and you would never see that from him or his teammates.

I have watched HS kids that were equal or greater talent than jJenkins get treated much worse. The folks in the gym that day were not real tough on the kid. And the players all respected him.

Sidenote 1: I will try to take it easy on the kid from here out. He was afterall, just a kid. He's a great talent and there are a ton of people that claim to know him and his family, and they all say he is a good kid. (I am not doubting YOU, but I doubt that most of the people who talk good about him actually know anything about him as a person. Just sayin')

Sidenote2: A player should NEVER, EVER make comments to the stands. Playing in a highly charged gym, tournament time, as the visiting team, that is just not a smart thing to do.

Sidenote3: I once harassed Chuck Barkley so bad when Auburn was playing at UF, that he threw down a reverse dunk, came back down the floor and was laughing while he pointed at me. But after the game, he came over and shook my hand. Good dude.

Carry on.

If the story is true and I have no reason to doubt that it is, there is no excuse for that type of behavior anywhere, anytime.

Dane Bradshaw was heckled pretty bad at LSU and he did not do this.
