TV news 50 years ago...circa 1970...was supported the same way that it is today. By advertising revenue from the commercials which aired during the program. If people are not watching/reading and businesses choose to advertise by other means....then these local outlets need to fail.
What these crooked liberals are attempting to do when buying the media is akin to rolling out big subsidies for carriage builders and horseshoe makers after Ford started mass producing the . You dont subsidize failing business models that innovation has ruled obsolete. With taxpayers money no less. Unless you are attempting to buy the media and control what the public sees?
This is dictatorship style BS!!! Marxism on steroids. These liberals will burn this country to the ground and dance in the ashes if given the opportunity.
It wasnât. It was a requirement of the over the air networks license that they had so many hours per week of news/educational programming. CBS was the first to turn the news into a profit center and it was either Cronkite or Murrow that objected and warned that doing so would ruin the objectivity of the news.
Organized Grime: Government Is Setting up a Protection Racket With the Press in the New Spending Bill
A punchline for months, the Feds consider paying off the media as needed in the infrastructure bill.
When Bidenâs highly touted and even more highly expensive Infrastructure spending bill, and his Build Back Better Act were initially floated the ridiculous breadth of them provoked gallows humor. Looking over the initial proposals generated numerous questions of what qualified in the bill, leading people to grimly declare items like season tickets, or their bar tab could be considered âinfrastructure.â Looking over the Democratsâ social spending bill we see they continue to regard tax revenue as a no-limit debit card for their whims.
One item that is proposed to be funded appears almost innocuous while also a ridiculous inclusion. Dubbed as the Local Journalism Sustainability Act, looked at one way, this is an effort to deliver aid to an industry that has been suffering for a time already but became deeply impacted by the arrival of the pandemic. The Democrats would prefer it not be looked at for what it is â a payoff racket.
