Loften will count as last year I suppose, and then we will try to sign 28, expecting some will not academically make it and be placed. Maybe we take Carmichael, Dunaway, Mickey Johnson, and Richardson and see who makes it in? Is this what Dooley is planning?

We will def oversign, JB & Hubbs think we only oversign with 1 or 2. I think Dunaway & Mickey (if he doesnt go to LSU).

No, we can sign 25 kids & get them into UT. We can sign 1 extra (26) & count them back to last years class since we only got 24 into UT in the '10 class. Then the staff will oversign with 1 or 2 kids they know wont make it in & place them in a JUCO or Prep school then re-recruit them for next years class.

Kind of semantics concering Loften. If he makes it in January, I suppose he counts as a last-year recruit. If he doesn't, then we can back count one against last year. Carmichael and Dunaway look like great prospects to sign and place. Give them a year at Hargrave and see how they progress in the classroom and on the field.

Is that a "sign and place"? How exactly does that work? A school signs them, when they know they don't have the room?

Usually a school will oversign with kids they know dont have the grades to get in, then they will send them to a JUCO or Prep school & re-recruit them to their school for the next recruiting class.

Forgive me but I'm not up to par on my recruiting knowledge but is it a good or bad thing if we oversign?

I hate the Houston Nutt signing limit rule. It really screws over programs like us that are trying to get back to full strength. If we have 85 scholarships to give any given year, it should be up to us on how we delegate those. Capping a limit on a signing class is socialist.

So if we indeed sign and place I doubt the chances are very high they resign with UT..

The chances are very high imo. The majority seem to handle the classes and pass the required course load and stick with the school that placed them or encouraged them to go to the prep or junior college. While I don't have any idea of the exact %, I am going to say 70 - 80%.

There are 2 limits. One is the annual scholarship limit of 25 per team. The other is the signing limit of 28 per team. Houston Nutt is responsible for the latter one but even without that limit UT could still just bring in 25 per year. The signing limit just keeps teams from signing a ton of non-qualifiers and doesn't really hurt us that much. It's the scholarship limit that keeps Dooley from replenishing the roster quicker.

We have the best recruiting coordinators of any college sports site in the nation, bar none!

It's in the JUCOs' and Prep Schools' best interests to make sure the schools that place them there signs them back
