So what does the win against Memphis do for recruiting?

I thought about that last nite also. If I were a kid in Memphis area.....it would say to me, you WILL lose to Tennessee and you WILL continue to lose to Tennessee. I hope it even carries over to basketball. We also lose a lot of that area to Mississippi Schools and Alabama.

I hope it catches that regions attention. Before too long we will be competing with Mississippi and Arkansas for recruits as well as Florida, Georgia, Alabama and USC.

it has...kids are wearing power t's all over the place here. just got back from the memphis zoo, there were a lot of bama hats, but those that were wearing them did have mullets, and very fat girlfriends/sisters/moms with them. so i figured they were actually from bama. but, there are alot of kids wearing tennessee gear around memphis, more so than i have ever seen.

Not Much in my opinion. There will always be a few great prospects from Memphis that want to escape Da Hood. Those will be our recruiting targets. Two or three A year at most will ever breath the fresh air of Rocky Top.

Good news there. Thanks for the info. :hi:

Honestly, there are a few good athletes that come out of Memphis. Instead of distancing ourselves from them, we should go after them. Both basketball and football would benefit from strong recruiting in that region.

Bruce goes and sells everything hes got to Memphis recruits and they arent coming but he is starting to realize we can go into Atlanta and scoop up some big time players.

I thought Texas Tech was the team with those ?

(Seriously - If you haven't heard Mike Leach's rant you need to pull it up on U Tube)

To answer the original question - IMO the recruiting benefits are all secondary.
- If they are the type of HS players we want then they are Alabama, FL, or Ole Miss fans - not Memphis State.
- If you come to UT they will play you if you earn it - even as a freshmen.
- CLK is ruthless - he kicks onside in the 1st qtr up by 14, he calls time out to get the ball back up by 35 in the first half - Kids want to play for someone like that.

I am going to respond seriously to this thread even if it was joking,

1. It helps give guys offensive numbers for recruiting. When you know Crompton is 4 in TD passes, David Reaves looks like a genius. Only someone who is really deep into it will know that half of them came against WKU and Memphis. It also made Nuke happy to catch a TD.

2. It shows how awful our second team defense is.
I truly believe that with the class we may end up with (subtract 1 LB, and 2-3 DTs from current) adding Lemonier, C Smith, Quarles, Luc, C Jones, D Wright and Dixon or Elam you will see more freshmen on the field on defense next year than you do this year.
Memphis abused our second team defense, it was embarassing.

Alot of the guys you are calling second team aren't in the two deep rotation and get very few live practice reps. To say they are "awful" is premature. They weren't as prepared as the staff can get them if they were getting 1st team reps in practice... witness the transformation of Frazier and others who have had to step up because of injuries.

All in all I don't think it will mean that much. I think OM is a bigger game with regard to Memphis but the UGA game is bigger than either. UT needs Atlanta more than Memphis.

It would be nice to see our best prospects stay in state though. A stomping on Memphis and a victory against Ole Miss should go a long way in making our homegrown talent consider UT first and foremost, which is how it should be.
