So what if...

Completley agree. All of the talk show Grudeites are setting themselves up for a huge let down. I honestly don't think he's coming, and with all of the hype, whoever they get instead is going to have an uphill battle pleasing the folks that were so dead set on getting Chucky.

I'm with you on that. I'd bet the ranch we don't get Gruden. Not saying I don't want him here, but I don't see why he'd come here over being paid millions to talk about football or coach for more money in the NFL

Go ahead and give the job to Phil for $10,000.00 per year and a free admission to every buffet in Knoxville. He will jump at it. Save the rest of the money for assistants.

Yeah, I dont think he is coming either.

Yesterday, when they announced that $18 million was being redirected to the coach. It seems that everyone jumped to the conclusion that money was for Gruden.

Not so fast my friends....

I just dont think Jon, at his age, wants or needs the headaches of running a college program. End of story.

This, He makes a lot of money now and does not have to work that hard for it. The next coach here will have to hit they ground running and go balls to the wall 24/7.

The $18 mill is more about getting the AD back in shape than it has to do with hiring a coach. Most schools in the SEC have a $15 million + in reserves. Cheek and his pudgy sidekick have milked the UT AD dry. Been going on for years. Dave Hart is the man righting the ship. No matter who the next coach is, you can be sure it will be a good fit at UT. Hart has not only gained the trust of the BOT, he also gained the trust of our biggest boosters.

We take that $5 million per year and offer it to Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops, Jimbo Fisher and Gary Patterson.

We offer to all four at the exact same time. And tell them that the first one to say "yes", gets the job.

Jackson, you think Petersen could be persuaded to put on the Big Orange for $5M?

I was shopping a few minutes ago, wearing my Bill Dance Power T cap. This guy, drinking some sort of orange drink, came up to me and asked if I was a Tennessee fan. I told him, "Yep!" He congratulated me and all UT fans on our coaching hire. I told him that I was unaware of a hire as of this time. He said, "Yeah, they just signed a deal with Jon Gruden... but they're not gonna announce it till November 30th." I responded, "WOW!" I then asked him what he was drinking, and he said, "Doolaide." Oh well...

I kinda think he is just happy at Boise State. I've got 6-8 guys ahead of him but if they all say no, we might check with him. He has a special needs child and a good setup out there. Not sure that he can recruit in the south. At $5 million, probably a little bigger gamble than I would want to take. Buuut maybe...he is a winner!

Yeah, that's about where I am with him. He is a good coach, as attested by his success at BSU. I have been wondering about his recruiting ability here in the south, too. I don't see Gruden coming to UT, and Cut just got an extension at Duke good through 19, so I don't see him coming either.

With Dooley, Smith, Phillips, and probably Chezick firings, there are 4 openings at SEC programs alone. I daresay other major programs may be firing coaches within the next two weeks. Therefore there will be a lot of demand for the type of Coach Hart said he wants to lure to UT.

Now, I'm wondering... of the limited coaches who meet Hart's parameters (personality, HC experience, attitude, recruiting ability, integrity, etc.,)... might be the best fit at UT. Any thoughts on this?

I honestly think Hart (Dave) will hire us a good coach, one who has a winning history some where

Because all of us just have opinions, Dave Hart's job is to hire our coach. All VFLs need to support our new coach whoever he is and the players who wear the orange and white and the helment w/ the power T. We are Tennessee.

So what if we don't get Gruden? I feel like half this fanbase will be devestated. We have great things to be looking forward to in our future. This team is loaded with potential and I think any great coach would love to come here. So cheer up folks and trust in Dave Hart. He is going to put us in position to win.

If we don't get Gruden, you will see a divided fan base. There will be the neutral ones like myself who will give it a wait and see approach. It will be mayhem typical of the past 3 years. Just my :twocents:

First four I call are Chip Kelly, Patterson, Jimbo Fisher, Bob Stoops. I doubt that we would get any of those four. But you never know...someone might be looking to move. In the next wave, I try Dan Mullins, Charlie Strong, Mike Gundy, maybe Jim Mora Jr, perhaps suck up the pride and go after James Franklin....he has performed a wonderful job at Vandy.

Good list. I might add:
1) Fedora, but I'm not sure about his SEC recruiting ability
2) Tuberville, however, some Vol fans have a bad Auburn taste with him
3) Briles, Again, I wonder how well he could recruit in the SEC
4) Dungy, if he would return to coaching
5) Cowher, same as Dungy

I do not envy Dave Hart as he has to make such a decision in the near future, but I pray for him as he considers each candidate and the future of the Vol football program. There are some great candidates... I just hope he gets the best fit for us. I was really hoping Dooley would work out, but was afraid from the beginning that he just didn't have the needed experience.

What happens when we throw out a half dozen offers and noone takes the bait, ala the Dooley hire 3 years ago.

Didn't a number of folks turn down the job. Cutcliff and Calhoun, along with a few others.

Its Gruden or bust at this point. Lets just hope he will consider taking something not higher than 5.5 million a year.

Trust the booster with the bucks. Don't worry, it is Gruden

Yes If we don't get Gruden half of the fan base will be severly depressed...now we are getting ready to play our last SEC game of the season and we are winless, if we beat Kentucky (don't think it's a lock with this squad) and have for the 2nd season only 1 SEC win...in reality we probably can't get any worse, so we begin the slow road back with whoever the new HC happens to be. Please remember that without a Big name coach recruiting will continue to suffer and recruiting is a good 75-80% of winning in the SEC....we've just got to find away to get the 4* and 5* recruits to compete with Ala, Ga, LSU, Fla, SC and now even Vanderbilt....whew....we've got to get movin right away because whoever the new coach is...He has his work cut out for Him
Go Vols

Honestly anything less than Gruden would be a disappointment. I dont think any other coach's name could turn around this mess and quick as he could.

Stoops hasnt really wowed me the last half decade. He always has OU loaded but he always finds a way to lose 1 or 2 games he shouldn't.

Petrino's name cant bring in the recruits that Gruden's would.
