So who actually calls the offensive plays?

Golesh called some plays but our OC's are really heavily involved in the game planning and scouting process. Golesh was great at it, Hazle sucks at it. That's why we have looked the same for 2 years

That makes sense. Still none of this explains why we gave up on the lightning-quick hurry up.

I feel like this is discussed a lot, but there's no firm answer. Is it Heup or is it Halzle?

And if it's Halzle, why in the world isn't it Heup? Our play calling is drastically different than it was 2 years ago. Also, what happened to our tempo?
CJH has always called the plays. Golesh was very involved in the offense but didn’t call the plays.

Golesh game planed to utilize our QB to run more and Hazle just relies on our RB. It was easier to stay ahead of the sticks when defenses had to guess if it was Hooker or the RB running. Under Hazle Nico only runs on scrambles and the same with Milton. We stayed behind the sticks both years so we couldn't get into our turbo offense. Golesh also utilized slants more and the middle. Once Milton couldn't hit that throw Hazle and Heupel went away from it. The middle is wide open but we don't do crap with it

If this is true, then was it Golesh in 2022?

I think the reality is this. CJH called plays for the majority of 22. But I think Golesh had a good eye for defenses and what to attack on them and it really helped CJH call plays. I think our current OC just kinda goes along with what CJHs basic offense is without much adjustment. I think it’d be healthy for CJH to get someone in with different mindsets that can help him out some.

Well said. Golesh seemed to really understand how to attack opposing defenses from film and probably helped CJH a lot. Hazle either does nothing to sucks so CJH just has to stick to his basic playbook. There were plenty of creative wrinkles the first two years. Not so much these last two.
