So, who came up with the Brick By Brick motto first?

Coach Kill at Minnesota used it before bUTch got to Tennessee. However, its hasn't really gotten "big" and used a lot until this past year. Did bUTch use it at Cincinnati?

Coach Kill did not use it first. An anonymous Egyptian bricklayer said it first. :hi:

It looks like Minnesota first started using the "brick by brick" and "one brick at a time" terminology sometime in 2011. It is attributed to Nike graphic designer Josh Iverson who brought it to coach Kill's attention and incorporated it into uniform design concepts. For them, it has to do with "The Brick House" which is a common nickname for their former on-campus Memorial Stadium.

Blog about the origin of the phrase as it relates to Minnesota

Also found an article where Butch Jones talks about the origin of the phrase as it relates to his coaching, but it's behind a 247 paywall and I'm not a subscriber.

I think it was Edgar Allen Poe in the Cast of Amontillado. Poor Fortunato! Brick by Brick sealed up in that cellar! Kind of like Utah State...:loco:

When we trap Chuckles in the backfield, we'd better wall him in. Otherwise brick by brick will have a whole new meaning. :banghead2:
